It's official: PSP has 32 MB + 4 MB eDRAM

Yeah, I expect it to be better than that as the resolution is smaller.

Nah common, surely your not telling me that the PSP is really just about as powerful as PS2?....

The PSP is relatively more powerful with PSP's resolution, GT4 on PS2 is already looking damn good (better than that pic) on my display, expecting it to look better on a smaller display with a smaller resolution is pretty natural I suppose. :D

The judge is still out on that. Have to know what kind of main memory, they actually put into PSP. And maybe some screens of some games.

V3, thanks for the hi-res pics. Damn, PSP looks nice :)
Too bad about no analog stick, though. I'm sure directional pad will be analog though, like it's on DS2.

It will most likely be weaker, but not much, especially with the new RAM upgrade. Small screen does make up for some weaker graphics, though. If you've seen the video stream of games they played from the devkit, they pretty much looked on par with PS2 stuff - and those prototypes were targeted to work with the old specced 8MB RAM machine.

After seeing the show, I'm sure normal gamers will not see any difference between PSP and PS2 games.

2.5h to 10h battery life ? Did I hear that right ?

Also it seems to be 32 MB main memory and 4 MB VRAM. No mentioned of the other 2 MB of RAM.

Here's what i know it's 2,5H for Movies (UMD constantly rotating), ~10H for gaming (UMD rotating only for Loading) and 7,5H for Music playback (Atrac3... :? )

I think you got gaming and music playback backwards. CPU + GPU going full tilt vs CPU just decoding ATRAC3, I'd say that gaming would eat up more battery life. ;)

Stop posting massive blown up images of DS, especially to compare to PSP. Oh and why do you always post the worst looking games?

This is a better comparison:

dsmetroid.jpg

Still not in PSP's league (looks quite good none the less), but then compare likely prices:

DS = $100 - $150
PSP = $300 - $350

Still love the comparison man? :LOL:

DS = too weak = baby bear of 3D portables
PSP = too bulky and power hungry = Papa bear of 3D portables

We need a mama bear (just right) 3D portable based on PowerVR MBX!

Well I don't know, why do you think its at least 18 months away? Its definitely more then 6 months away of course.

Since DS is out in about 6 months, I'd think Nintendo would give it at least 12 months by itself in the market place before they relegate it into insignificance by releasing GBA2. Unless you believe all that "3rd tier" BS obcourse. ;)

Erm in what way is that BS? Before they had 2 major pillars (or facets if you like) to there games business. Two products that ran alongside each other both with different games and support. DS will be the third product, a 3rd pillar of Nintendo's business. So yeah I think they do believe it given that they have the power to decide wether its true or not.. :LOL:

Clearly they plan to support 3 gaming products in the market at once.

Well, I've been kinda under the impression that PSP was going to launch in the U.S. after Christmas '04, (although it sounds like they're going to try and hit that for Japan). If that's true, the perfect time to announce GBA 2 would be immediately before PSP launches in the U.S. That gives DS a full Christmas season to itself, and at the same time can take a significant chunk of wind out of the PSP.

How do you know this? If anything, PSP would appear to be better sized and quite reasonable with power compared with the DS from the pictures we've seen with a sense of scale. In fact, I'm quite disapointed by the DS overall; from it's reductionist feature set to [blah] physical design and asthetics - which was a downer considering the rest of their E3 presentation was first rate.
