It seems the 80 GB PS3's are starting to appear on the market.

I saw two the other day at one of the Wal-Marts in Wichita Falls, Texas. Do not recall which one, but I think it was the one by the air force base, if anybody here is anywhere near that area.

Are they supposed ot be out yet, or was the "launch" date broken?

Somebody posted saying that some titles have problems on BC (DMC3) which probably means they switched to software emulation.
No probably about it; you're behind the times! The 80GB model is the EU mobo (sans any minor regional differences), with no hardware EE. Sony offset the drop in BC with an increase is HDD capacity, because they couldn't release a machine at the same price-point and lower net functionality.

that makes sense but then does that mean there's only an 80 GB available now? assuming they don't want to make two types of motherboards.

There will eventually only be an 80GB with reduced BC (although I understand it's pretty good on the whole these days). They've stopped making the old mobos and just need to clear out stock. All current units have the EE removed and also a shrunk controller chip. Europe will continue to get 60GB instead of 80GB because we were suckered with that setup in the beginning and no-one feels we ought to get an extra 20 GBs to make up for the lack of BC. :(

DJ12,

yea that is what makes their job sweet....they can be right or wrong and still end up with a pay check!

Will this come with any games and an extra controller or just the console and one controller?
