I just got done watching the G4 E-3 press conference show and it was like a 2 hour informercial for the PS3. They spent 2 hours kissing sony's ass and ripping to shreds MS and Nintendo. They would praise the pre rendered PS3 stuff then rip on MS for having pre rendered PGR3. They dismissed GOW as something that could be done on the current XBox. They completely dismissed live as some cheap gimik. The way they made it sound is it was the PS3 vs the a 16 bit system. Any average person watching this show would gather the PS3 is 4x to 10x more powefull than the Xbox 360. If this is the mindset of the media and gamers MS and nintendo have already lost.

It was great to see the press conferences but sucked listening to a panel of sony boys. If I was MS I would pull any advertising on the network.

I noticed that also, they were pretty much saying that microsoft was dead in the water soon as the ps3 come out. but it's microsofts fault they were showing a more realistic vision of what games will look while sony was benchmarking the cell they should have had a ruby or the ati farcry type of demo to show

Realistic vision is a must for MS at this time. They will have games that will be playable in 12 hours time. If they have all this CGI that makes all the games look like shit it will kill all those games displayed the next 3 days. I was just pissed they could not find 1 kind word for MS or Nintendo.

That is true. Fair and balanced my buttocks :D

The thing I'm most concerned about is SOny has stolen this E3 with alot of really good pre-rendered movies and if MS didn't see that coming their morons and will never win against Sony. They showed their hand early and it was weak to begin with. They should have had a Halo3 render ready to go and better/more games. Or atleast more quality control on the games they have. The x360 specs are very compareable to ps3 but so far you'd think they were lightyears apart.

- MS's flagship 360 title PDO looks like a mediocre GC game.
- Half the 360 games look like current gen games.
- They failed to secure even a single AAA franchise from the Sony camp.
- They failed to keep Epic exclusive.
- They seem to be outsourcing all their games and not getting a very good investment return.
- I coud go on and on
- the biggest corporation can only make one halo game at a time???

I've gone from a definite x360 purchaser to thinking I'm going to hold off.

$350-$399 bwahahahaha

I know the xbox360 hardware is impressivem but it seems MS is already acting like it's a success and forgot to make the great games. They fail to realize that initial 3rd party games usually suck.

And to think everybody thought Sony was dead in the water because they weren't releasing enough info. Then BAM!! they hit M$ with everything they had. At least half of those videos were real so stop with the lies!!!

I agree with you there is a lot MS does not get. They should of paid any sum of cash to keep GTA out of sony's exlusive hands. I also agree there should of been some sort of Halo 3 CGI trailer. I will still get a Xbox 360 day 1 because I can't wait another year for the PS3/rev.

Does MS have the cash to get controlling interest in EA? If they could get EA for the football licence the PS3 would be dead in the water in north america. No system would win any generation in NA with out football these days. I have a feeling unless EA does something that dramatic they may get thier asses handed to them again. How the hell they let GTA slip through thier fingers again.

If half those vids were real then they all should be play able in 12 hours. If they are not playable in 12 hours I say they are CGI smoke screens. Both did it sony just did a better job.

I said real-time not playable. There is a difference. Just because you can't play it stage for stage at E3 doesn't mean its not real-time.

There's no way killzone2 video was rendered in realtime. It looked about as real as the early killzone1 screenshots ;)

Proof?

G4 makes some very legitimate points concerning Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony clearly had the best showing - an opinion you'll hear die-hard Xbox and Nintendo fans bemoaning all over the internet. And soon you'll see it in the gaming press as well.

P.S. It wasn't just G4 people on that show, either. They had a guy from IGN and some other fella, too.

Oh they had a great show, no doubt. But have no US launch frame, price, and no idea of the quality we will be seeing in game. The final point is an important one. Minus UT2007 (same quality as Gears, same engine also) we were only left with a fuzzy feeling of "it could".

MS went about things the wrong way for the hard core gamer, and PDZ is no where in sight. But that said, all is not lost and it has not been a flop. They just got out "showed", but here are some pros from MS:

-Xbox Live = the real deal.
-MS has a ton of support from developers
+6 EA launch titles, 25 in the works (this is great news for MS in the US)
+40 launch titles
+Close to 200 games in development
+Square Enix supplying FF XI and a new FF type game
-MS best looking games (PGR3, Gears of War, Ghost Recon 3, etc...) were on par with anything Sony shows.
-The Xbox 360 is powerful and well balanced (HDD, comparable GPU it appears, nice CPU--not as much floating point but definately has a bit and it has 3 PPC cores and should do a lot of game logic and integer well)
-Halo will debut with PS3 launch

I think MS biggest mistakes were:
-Stupid hip hop image
-Never should have focused on PDZ in its early state
-Should have only showed the killer apps
-Should have weeded out all the stuff that did not look next gen and should have showed CGI instead (e.g. DoA4 CGI instead of DoA4 footage)
-Should have done some technical demos
-Should have focused on the massive support; even mention how many launch titles their competitors had in the past--THEN show CGI of what they will have

-And finally--they needed to win over an exclusive (and I thought losing epic was bad form for this E3... not a big deal UE3 is on PS3, but that should have waited for after E3)

Overall MS showed a lot of pluses. But Sony out did them with demos, promises, and CGI. Sony really had a better presentation. Heck, Nintendo's Reggie is a better talker than anyone MS has. At least he gets you excited.

It was MS that chose to get a headstart, so it's also MS who's responsible for the consequence of their strategy.

Another killer is the darn leaks.

MS had some more leaks right before the show (Square Enix deal and something else). Having your employees/partners leak your console design, specs, exclusives, partners, etc... makes it REALLY hard to have an impressive anything.

No one had a clue about the GameBoy Micro. Yet we all knew what was under the Xbox 360 hood 12 months ago. Something just is not right about that.

Isn't it a part of their mindshare tactics? ourcolony and things led me to that thought.

I accidently deleted what I had wrote when I hit post and had to fill it back in (take a look again at all I wrote).

I do not feel MS going early had much to do with it. Having every tidbit of your plan on the internet ahead of time kills anticipation. And MS made some dumb mistakes. They needed to PROVE next gen stuff, just like Sony.

They have it. PGR3 looked better than GT Vision. Gears of War is every bit as impressive as the short UT2007 clip. GR3 looks great. They could have thrown in Madden, NFS, and a few of the other great looking things also. That is blow for blow as good.

Instead MS blew it by showing incomplete stuff imo. They shoulod have showed the killer stuff, talked about all the support from EA and 40 launch titles and left it at that with a promise they will see more over the next couple days and in the coming months.

Basically whoever was heading the show seems to have treated it less as a one shot presentation but was trying to let too much software speak. Launches always have a lot of weak titles... just pick the best to represent your cause and gloss over the lesser stuff. For someone reason someone at MS cannot get that.

Anyhow, MS definately hit a homerun with Live. Suprised more people are not talking about that. As an online gamer Live's improvements are just as vital as graphics.

I have a hard time believing that their big E3 surprise of Square Enix was intentionally leaked 24hrs before the show. Some leaks are plausible for mindshare, but having your big deals and secrets splurted everywhere is not. And from what I heard MS was none so happy about the Xbox 360 pics getting onto the net.

I apologize if this has already been stated.

G4 is owned by Comcast. Comcast bought Tech TV and merged the two. Microsoft owns 7% of Comcast.

If this information is wrong in any way I apologize.

True that. But MS - and especially Nintendo - were even more vague in their plans.

Hey, MS - you're launching this fall! How about some pricing. No? Maybe give us a date?

What G4 really hammered on is that both Microsoft and Nintendo seem to have muddled their messages.

Who's Microsoft going after? They have hardcore gamers now. What's this VelocityGirl talk? Do they really expect my mom to use this thing?

Some people just want a game box that plays great games - not one that seems to be created primarily so Microsoft can get you into an online marketplace and charge you for annual subscriptions and a buttload of microtransactions.

As for Nintendo's problems, they pointed out that "Mario's a whore" - being shoehorned into every type of game imaginable, including this Dance-Dance Revolution thing.

Do we really NEED another Gameboy that does that same things as all the others?

And despite the fact that the Revolution console's design appears targeted toward an older audience, once again, all the content they showed (none of it for that console) was typical Nintendo fare - Nintendogs, Pokemon, etc.

Last but not least. Once again - they'll be late to the party, despite the Reginator's earlier assurances.

I think a lot of people are surprised right now that of all the companies, Sony seems the most focused on building a great game player and delivering truly next-gen games.

It's tearing some people up inside. :)
