Internet Applications on Consoles

With ESPN3 and Netflix on the Xbox and Netflix, Hulu, MLB and NHL on the PS3, with many more IPTV applications planned for the EU, Internet Applications are and will be a large feature of Gaming Consoles.

Google TV is also an Internet Application and more and rumors are it is coming to the PS3.

Currently most of these applications appear to use Flash and Applications outside a browser use Air 2.5 which supports DRM, Adaptive streaming and commercials that can't be blocked.

A New Application is Divx TV

The DivX TV Platform is:
Flexible — Enables IP-streaming content services on any connected device
Complete — Internet content, home network streaming and side-loaded media playback
Compelling — Broad and growing library of high-demand content
Responsive — Elegant, intuitive, lean-back navigation and viewing experience
Valuable — Supports multiple business models
Built for CE — Designed from the ground up for consumer electronics devices - no keyboard required
Consistent — Enables a consistent consumer experience across multiple ICs and device categories
Updatable — Add new content and promotions with seamless in-field updating
Scalable — Add 100s of unique channels and services without having to separately implement each one
Highly Efficient — Low processing requirements, uses mainstream CE silicon — no PC-class processor required

It's a Bravia Internet Plus as it also allows streaming user content from a PC like home movies and pictures.

Add 100s of unique channels and services without having to separately implement each one. I've been wondering how Sony was going to implement multiple IPTV and internet apps without cluttering the XMB, this would work.

"access to a universe of entertainment on any Internet-enabled device from any brand including Gaming Platforms", I would guess considering that statement and others almost a carbon copy of the description of Adobe Air that it's a Flash application and cross platform. And if as I suspect Air 2.5 is in the PS3 then it certainly could be available on the PS3. The Wii which has an older version of Air could be upgraded and support Divix TV also.

This thread is covering the same material as you've covered in the other HTML5 thread, so is redundant and closed.
