You might want to refrain from using bad analogies.

You too:

Powerglove...1989...8-bit.

It's not an analogy. It's a direct copy of Nintendo's PG, unlike your analogy where vaccines have nothing to do game consoles.

First its Mattel`s Powerglove.
Second if you cant distingush a clumpsy Glove with a much more flexible Camera...
Third, if you want to account the idea to manipulate objects in 3D to a Company, then you have to go way further in the past( aside from the fact that the idea is as old as mankind outside of the computer).

Ok it's Mattels idea, the point still stands. BTW the camera doesn't work by itself. The demo used more than a camera. It needed props/decoys. Also we're talking gaming consoles here not VR on computers. It was done on consoles since the 80s, heck infared motion detection was done way back then too.

For me, where MS have talked games and shown games, I don't see anything much in their library that appeals to me, upcoming on XB360 or in the XB's back-catalogue. If you're not keen on shooters and racers it feels like there's not much for you on the MS system. But then if you like online Shooting and Racing, XB360 sounds ideal.

Actrually the 360 has a very impressive line-up of exclusive RPG's, MMO-Games and 3rd person action games.

Saying that XBOX is for FPS and racing is not true at all, those are my 2 least favourite genres and XBOX is my preffered system, and I see a TON of games I want to pick up on the 360 over year 1.

That said, Sony didn't showcase any games for gamers to go 'I want to play that', but Sony don't write games.
Huh? God of War, made by a sony development house and published by sony.

I agree--I've never before seen a launch where I thought I could easily buy 6-7 games (usually it's 1, maybe). To be fair, the Xbox had more than it's fair share of FPSs, but the Xbox 360 doesn't seem to be limited in the same way.

Just as much as all the other Sony games released on PS2 that were not made by first party studios, which could still be considered "Sony" anyway.

The Getaway was undeniably a Sony product. Same for Primal and a few others.

Jak&Daxter series was Naughty Dog's game, but they're first party, they're part of Sony now, so the game could be considered a Sony game. Like GT3/4

Shifty has shifted the whole argument, the discussion was about does Sony have a sound strategy, as they don't seem to be aggressively pursuing exclusive or signing deals with new developers some of use were saying it doesn't look like much of a plan at this point.

The McMas said you need to have faith, just BELIEVE! And pointed to the E3 Tech demo's as some kind of proof of Sony's great plan....

The argument is not "will sony have games" who in their right mind is going to argue they won't? Of course they have a ton of games.

But what's their strategy this time around? I don't understand why they are letting their best franchises slip away, meanwhile I hear weekly about some new MS exclusive developer, or new exclusive game.

It seems like they are just trying to overpower them on hardware(which they may or may not have accomplished) and then simply ride their brandname.

I think its a flawed strategy, you can't just forget about locking down exclusives, as the 360 exclusives pile up, and the PS3 exclusives dwindle, there will be more and more of a reason to switch consoles.

Gears of War and Oblivion alone will be huge system sellers, and that really just the tip of teh iceberg. Lost odyssey, Blue Dragon, Jade Empire 2, APB, Spore, Huxley..i mean it goes on...

That's the same argument people were using in 2000/2001. Sony losing their exclusives to MS...

We'll see what happens alright? MS are getting more games, which is normal cause it would have been hard to get less support than the last time they tried, and Sony seems to have all their developers, big and small, still there ready to make games for PS3.

Exclusive games have been getting fewer and fewer in numbers for obvious reasons, the most important being development costs. One software house is more likely to release a multiplatform game, and seen how next gen will allow to reuse exactly the same content from PS3 to X360, this trend will become even more popular. Porting costs will be smaller and the profit obtained will be bigger. Especially when we think about the fact that most multiplatform games will only use one PPU core in either system properly at least at the beginning... Like developing a game on the same PC CPU but 2 different graphics cards (Obviously it's not nearly that simple but you get my point, X360 and PS3 are much more alike than PS2 and Xbox ever were) ;)

There's no reason to believe that any of these will be system sellers. Maybe GoW. Maybe. But Jade Empire? Have you seen the sales of Jade Empire 1? It's respectable, but it's no GTA or Halo.

But what's their strategy this time around?

That's what Microsoft wonders about too..

* What will their final specs be :?:
* What is their online strategy :?:
* What will be their exclusives/interesting games :?:

Expect to find out right before or after the xbox360 launches.. The advantage Sony has is that they don't have to reaveal as much as Microsoft does since they won't launch this year aniway. Just study the competition and "borrow" whatever you think is interesting.

Not to start out on another "MS FUD" tangent, but..

The total number of 1080p-capable TVs on the planet today is ... zero. There are none. Sony has got a dual ... I want to make sure I say this right, because it's science fiction. They had dual HDMI outputs off the back of the console. And I think that there's some theory that you could take dual 1080i signals and interlace them together to have a progressively rendered scene. But again, there are no TVs that actually support this. I think most people are going to actually take one of the HDMI outputs and just feed it out at 1080i.

Errr...what? That makes little sense at all. He's saying you'd need two HDMI/DVI inputs on your TV to have a 1080p picture out of PS3?
He's right. There's no device out that can output 1080p. The bandwidth required for 1080p is around 3Gb. HDMI can only do as high as 1080i. So for "fake" (I'll explain it later) 1080p you need the output of two HDMI ports for 1080p. The reason it's still fake is because it's not true 1080p/60Hz. No device, including the PS3, can do 1080p/60Hz. Just too much bandwidth required.

That's the most ridiculously ignorant piece of "information" i've read for a LONG time. My god...

Thanks for the laugh though.

I'll admit I have a softspot for JE.

but Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, APB, Huxley, all have the potential to explode IMO.

london-boy - I don't know if we're reading the same news reports, but MS is aggressively securing publishers and games, you can't just pass that off as "hard to get less support than the last time they tried"

They could';ve done nothing and recieved more support then last time, they are agggressively pursuing exclusives which is quite different from what sony seems to be doing.

That doesn't contradict what i said: MS is getting more support, and Sony still have all the support they always had.
