inFAMOUS Second Son [PS4]

Based on the top pic, it's nice to see that at night the city is actually dark. As much as I like GTA V, night time is over lit, even when you're in the middle of nowhere.

F*ck !! That is an open world first attempt, that too one with myriad of particle effects and super fast movements ! Boy oh Boy  ! Hope there is minimal pop-ins when we are going really fast with Neon !

If you want to know more about the upcoming PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son the Games Developers Conference that will happen between March 17th and March 21st in San Francisco seems to be the perfect place.
A whopping four panel focused on the upcoming PS4 exclusive have been announced, mostly focusing on its advanced engine. Below you can read a list of the panels, the official summary of each. Of particular interest will be the panel on the particle system, that will focus on the console’s GPU asynchronous compute features, that are still a mystery for many.

I really like the increased detail in the environment. It's not quite up there with GTA but it's close.

I wonder how big it'll actually be. Compared to something like GTAV, the two Infamous games were quite tiny. That's not really a complaint, by the way. I'll take a well realized playground with a lesser scope over a ginormous wasteland anyday. GTAV sorta managed to deliver on both the size and the details, but since R* North probably employs a workforce similar in size to the population of a small island nation, a feat like that is kind of expected.

Is the real Seattle a major city? I honestly have no idea (and I'm too lazy to google it)

I'd say a fully realised Seattle would be many times bigger than any of the previous infamous games. Don't know about GTAV as I haven't played it.

Troy Baker also played the demo and said we ain't seen yet. Frankly, thats literally true, for a gamer eleasing next month, we haven't seen anything at all.
Hope the new demo footage comes out soon.

I believe the embargo for Monday's press event expires Wednesday. The media got a demonstration and hands on time and presumably lots of assets/gameplay capture.

I have just watched the infamous 891MB (5mn) latest Preview_Build_BRoll_03.mov trailer.
Very very disappointed by what I watched. How could Sony even upload this?

The image looks really muddy with low res textures everywhere compared to even the last year YouTube video which was twice sharper and more detailed.

I really hope it comes from bad second hand capture; the movie is really short (5mn) for 891MB and should have a better quality. But it really looks like some kind of upscaling or interlacing is in effect.

I don't think that has come from Sony. The only place Google could find the video was being hosted on some guy's dropbox account. It just looks like like somebody's captured some footage from the game. In the UK, GAME are running some early access opportunities at a number of stores this month, maybe this is also happening elsewhere.

It's funny how lots of players and reviewers say "I'll play as the good guy" etc.
Personally I restarted the game as soon as I finished in on Good karma, and played the whole thing all over again as the baddie... I'd have thought most infamous lovers would do the same

Pretty astounding an open world game can have this kind of graphics, although I wish more light sources can cast shadows. It's interesting because previous infamous games have that nice lightning effect which casts beautiful dynamic shadow of Cole himself.
I'm gonna abuse the neon dash so much, a really cool effect that makes you feel so agile and invincible.

I played both games as good and evil but it's a shame it is a binary choice and there's no path of those of moral ambiguity.

You can play this way but you won't attain Hero or Infamous status which deprives you of some epic powers, although you can play moral side to an extreme, then play the remainder as morally ambiguous, e.g. you hit Infamous then don't just kill civilians indiscriminately. Mild or even moderate amounts of good karma don't really seem to affect the moral compass.

Damn it, now I just want to play inFamous 2 again :D I really hope they've tuned the Vita controls on this one because I see myself playing this a lot at lunchtime at work and I'd rather not drag the PS4 back and forth!

That's why I think moral choices in games pretty much suck in general. You're rarely choosing out of conviction. You're choosing because there's a dangling upgrade carrot on a stick that usually rewards one extreme playstyle or the other, but never anything in between. It's always a toss-up between baby-eating Hitler reincarnated or Mother Theresa.

Ignoring the carrot (good or bad powers), infamous doesn't require you play as one extreme or another. Playing with Hero karma in both games, I had a terrifying amount of collateral damage (dead civilians) in many missions but it doesn't affect your karma significantly. Likewise as Infamous karma, there's no harsh penalty for saving civilians or not killing them.

I think the game does a good job of not forcing you to think about every little action, or even several missions of indiscriminate play, all they need to do is drop in a third path of powers for those who really aren't one thing or the other. Instead of every karmic-action only haven a positive or negative effect on your good or bad karma, it could just count karmic events and if you're not significantly one thing or the other, a third path of powers opens up. You'd still need to work at clocking up karmic actions to progress but it would be more natural.

I'm not expecting it Second Son but I have hopes for a future game.
