Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

The demos were not 720p. I'm waiting for some direct output captures of the retail edition (should be discussed in the "Available Games" thread, just FYI). :)

dumping some shots of which i was viewing a while back about ffxiii. it confirms little but i thought it might give some something to look at in the meanwhile. both shots are taken from two video sources. (with exception of the 360 footage coming from a much much more compressed source.)

the original source for both is here. (both are in HD, with the 360 version saved with a lot more compression.)

that's it for now.

everybody needs to chill out.

the shots are not a comparison to see which is better....and i'm surprised to see people are taking it that way. the purpose of the shots wasn't meant to offend people.

the detail is there in the 360 version, you have to see beyond the blockyness.

and people don't have to subject them selves to using or blaming media noise and low-rez compression artifacts as a culprit to decide which version is better. which is exactly what you just did Axtmoerder.

as i stated earlier "both shots are taken from two video sources. (with exception of the 360 footage coming from a much much more compressed source.)"

That's probably more the blurrier IQ than texture difference. Textures do not appear to have taken a hit in this.

Uh...had it been due to the IQ difference you'd have atleast seen traces of those textures...in this case it seems to be totally missing on collar but yet you can see that texture on the area beneath the collar.

I think I can see traces towards the top, and it's easy to lose that kind of texture in blur.

Even then, the absence of a repetition of a normal map already present on the rest of the garment can hardly be classified as reduced texture fidelity. Which is stepping across the OT for this framebuffer+IQ discussion. If the textures aren't pointing towards a quantifiable degree of blur/upscaling, they aren't relevant to this thread and should be considered in the comparative tech thread.

Not sure if it has been confirmed yet, but I did a bit of scaling
and the 1080p on the Ps3 is the same as the 720P stretched.

So, it's great upscaling... the native resolution isn't lowered, and it holds the same IQ while having 1080P cutscenes.

(will post the pictures later today)

Folks, this is not a thread about porting quality endeavours... Strictly image quality analysis.

there are some little differences found here and there which i highlighted.

apart from the low rez sparks from the ps3 version and awkwardly filtered snow trees in the 360 version mentioned earlier, not much sets them apart. if you're looking for the differences you'll find them here and there, but most of the stuff you have to really stare down upon to see it.

either way you look at it, it's a very nice and solid display on both consoles. and if don't like the way the environments look you can always alter it with your grenade or your rocket launcher.:smile2:

IIRC Repi said something about PS3 having slightly better bloom effect techwise. It is somewhere in his twitter.
