Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Curious... a few of Gamersyde's shots show horizontal scaling (as bad as 640). And it's strange how the shots are 1280x719 too.

Dynamic horizontal scaling?

For the framebuffer?

Yeah. :???: Maybe the images were doctored. :p

Thanks.

Ah... looks like a black line at the bottom, 1 pixel height. Guess that explains 1280x719...

Still checking... (Really slow website!)

Btw, the intro scene is 4xAA 30fps like the replay mode.

Ok, so I've checked about 10 images... All 1280x719 (black line at the bottom of the screen). No sign of scaling at all.

A lot of alpha-to-coverage foliage. Wonder if they're using FP16..

Possibly.

A shame they don't have dynamic AA whilst driving, though maybe they really are pushing 16ms very closely.

I haven't checked it closely, but the strange gamersyde screens seem to be mostly from the cockpit view looking out. Could it be that there's a difference in rendering resolution between cockpit and outside view? Just a thought, given that initially, cockpit view ran at 30fps...

Nah, I checked the cockpit view shots at gameswire as well. :)

The worst of the gamersyde screens was outside the car too. It's probably just something silly that happened on their capture hardware.

PS3 Lost Planet 2 demo, 720p no AA? I notice alot of dithering with the grass too, and the lighting seems to be a bit more intense than the 360 demo. Everything else looks pretty much the same and the game actually runs smooth. Hope the final version will at least have 2X MSAA lock.

No cap on the 360 demo's frame rate either? I noticed the PS3 one to be going over 30Hz in the least populated areas.

The lighting issue may very well the gamma output difference, as was the case with RE5.

So Iam not the only one. IIRC wasn't LP1 the same, 360 locked at 30fps and ps3 was unlocked?

I don't know...edges seem far too smooth to be no AA. Interviews say the game runs on MT Framework "2.0" with RE5 running on "1.5". It seems unlikely that they would drop QAA with an upgrade of the engine.

Though even in the big Slug boss fight thing, I didn't see much jaggies and the framerate wasn't super smooth. Have they dropped the dynamic AA?

I think both are bullshots because of 720p and high quality aa.

in this trailer battle field seems same resolution and aa as 360 version.

It wasn't until a month before release before the real screenshots came out. Before then it looked like it would be top tier among games developed. We'll have to wait until some who doesn't work for the SE PR department to do some screengrabs.
