Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Looks like 720p with some sort of edge filter (possibly FXAA given some of the variation in the edge quality).

I don't know if we should rule out FXAA just yet. Some edges seem to be applied with AA in the recent SP B-roll footage.

Compression aside. Look at some of the edges.

I'm wondering if we're seeing different builds... Or I'm just letting my eyes play tricks with me. lol:rolleyes:

For now, .... let's call it LBYTAA* :cool:

Yea,thats what I thought...Al,now if they use say FXAA,their g buffer will be twice smaller right?(considering R* games use light pre pass)

Here's another stir in the pot for the FXAA debate. lol

Gamersyde posted the single player campaign from Gamescom shot with a HD camera. It's displayed on multiple screens. The image quality is surprisingly clean. I'm seeing very little jaggies.

The part of the vid that really caught my attention was the shot of Carmine in the helicopter. He had no jaggies on him unlike the pictures shown in a previous link. You can see some jaggies on the helicopter as the team gets off.

It definitely looks like Gears 3 has AA here.

Also the infamous Unreal Engine 3 texture pop-in is gone.

As for those wondering about the video bit rate... It's 6275K:p

ModEdit:

Here's the correct link

This is not a good source for analyzing. When I was searching through the site, I was hoping you weren't referring to this off-screen video (aliasing can still be found if you're looking, but where the lack of edge aliasing is concerned you do have to consider A) it's off-screen footage, B) Epic artists haven't gone insane again with the specular, C) the colour pallette, D) the plethora of regular post-effects (DOF, MB)

Good point.

Curious... 720p and 1080p no AA (View Image or download the image).

curious is the right word. you have some screen shots which indicated 1920x1080 native then the other half you have shots which indicate 1162x652 native (unless they're cropped shots).

they still have two weeks till release so they have PLENTY of time :LOL: (gow collection) to improve IQ

mlaa tho would be twice as expensive at 1080p since pixel count is roughly doubled

1280x720 = 921600
1920x1080 = 2073600

The website reduces the size of the image frame, which is why I mentioned that you should either open them in a new window or download them. They're 720p with no cropping or anything.

Doesn't look like QAA to me.

No, not for me either. I'd sooner believe no AA and just not that high detail textures most of the time. The sandy color palette and lack of HDR just makes AA harder to detect.
