Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

But it sounds like the type used by Crysis where it comes off as several distinct planes rather than true stereoscopic. And it lowers resolution to "5 something".

Off topic, but what I've learned from this is how shockingly illiterate and ignorant gamers can be.

"The point Is at what cost it came to be added. Sub-hd and lower res for the majority of us who could care less about this old school gimmick that tries to become cool every decade"

"Id rather they used that extra disk space to boost performance or add a pixel or 2 to Doms hairline..."

"Did they lower the resolution across the board? Or only if you have the 3D effect turned on? If the resolution was lowered for 2D I'll be pissed."

Thanks, but now I wonder why the XMB looks sharper. I always read that the 360 dash was 480p upscaled. Maybe it's 720p NXE while the XMB is 1080p?

yes nxe is 720p and xmb is 1080p. some of the apps like zune player is 1080p tho

The Dark Souls image looks like it might be 1024x720 with an edge filter. *shrug* No good edges all around, same with the Skyrim shots (heavy compression as well). NG3 looks super sampled.

What? Skyrim is 1024 x 720 now? Is this the original Elder scroll Oblivion res on Xbox360?

I meant the Demon Souls pic (didn't see your post at the time), but yes, Skyrim looked like 720p 4x from earlier footage, which is consistent for their work on 360 for Fallout 3+New Vegas. I only meant that these new images of Skyrim were heavily compressed and there were no good edges for analysis.

So Dark Souls is running at a lower resolution than Demon's Souls...IIRC Demon's Souls was 720p/no AA.

Dark Souls is currently running at the same resolution as Vanquish, another game with the PS3 as the lead platform - it will be interesting to see how the 360 version will turn out considering we still haven't seen it in action.

I see, so we can probably expect 2xmsaa or no aa on the PS3 version if Bethesda sticks with that formula. Would be most interesting for me to see how the ps triple fairs it.

The link not works... in the past screens appears to me more like 2xMSAA but I could be wrong.
Edit: correct, seem custom post-process (imho FXAA). I'm watching the site, on 360 seem more aggressive (better smoothed edges) but at the cost of a notable blurring in some scene, I don't know if depend may be to a slight lower resolution. On ps3 sometimes the jag are really evident.

highlight the link and press enter, looks like it fail to pick up a lot horizontal edges

FXAA not works so good in the long linear edges (if I remember correctly); I tried, but on my browser the links don't works  However these are from ps3 version right? This custom AA on ps3 is used more subtle than the 360. I suggest to visit the same site & check the pics comparison: 360 use the filter more aggressively & the jaggies are covered better at cost of blurrish image.

fxaa implementation on 360 is a higher quality setting. look at the left curtain edge, fairly long straight lines but much smoother on 360. higher fxaa setting looks at more neighboring pixels, its not really surprising since its gpu calculated. also some weird pixel artifacting on the girl on the ps3 version. but i have to say i did not expect this game to be 1280x720(or very close to) since alot of the prerelease shots were pretty sub hd.
