IGN: 10 Reasons to Wait for PS3

MGS4 was, is and always will be in real time. Whether people believe it or not it's not the issue. Some people will believe what they want to believe even after seeing it.

Does anyone else think the reasons IGN stated are pretty lame.

some are quite valid. namely:

No killer app:
Don't worry their soon will be in 2-3 months. Also, maybe they want you to wait for the PS3 launch because that is when Halo 3 comes out. So maybe there is good reason to wait ;)

it's a fact - no killer app at the moment. there may be some very good or even killer titles later on. but not now. just face it - all those early adopters right now are impulse buyers. which is nothing wrong, as long as people admit it.

Seven Player wireless support:
Who in their right mind would play on a tv with 7 split screens? Any takers, didn't think so. This would require Dualscreens, which I doubt all games will even support, and doubt most consumers even have.

ever heard of lan parties? you don't believe people there play on a single monitor, do you?

Blu-ray:
Well it is a little to early to say Blu-ray will be all that it is cracked up to be. Right now it is just a huge hype machine because so far they don't have everything working. In fact they still have to get this stuff from working in the lab to ability to mass produce, otherwise you will be seeing a whole lot of nothing. Also hopefully businesses will be willing to spend the 2 million it will take to buy the machines needed to manufcatur blu-ray disks. As opposed to the 200,000 - 300,000 it takes to retool machines for HD-DVD. Which can be used for both DVD9 and HD-DVD. Lets hope there is support for this standard and it is actually needed for the next gen. Otherwise it will be like using a sledgehammer where a hammer would have worked just fine.

well, the above rationale of yours is outright funny. who in their right mind would spend 2 million in investments when there are likely billions in return, right?.

*snip*

Got a source for that claim either? Last I heard it was played back in realtime on the hardware, streaming the geometry, and Kojima was able to spin the camera around a static scene. How does that equate to a 50 machine render farm?

BREAKING NEWS: PS3 as fast as a render farm of 50 machines.

:devilish:

 1. Cool CPU
 2. Blu-ray (for games and movies)
 3. ICO/SotC developers
 4. Squenix
 5. X2 and PS3 will have a lot of titles developed for both systems (unlike the Rev which is the odd man out)
 6. Not confirmed but: ability to use CF as game save storage
 7. Ability to age movies... okey... (asuming good) online support
 8. Best 3rd party support
 9. Follow up to PS2 - will likely get some exclusives because of that and PS2 game sequels
 10. PSP-game connectivity

for me sony has
1- Fumito Ueda Games (i must say these guy's games changed my whole opinion on sony )
2- BluRay (if sony can give me an hd-dvd player with my next gen console without making me go over $400 , i'm intersted)
3- Square-Enix Connecction (i don't think se's next gen plans are finalized yet but so far it looks like they are still gonna to keep main ff&dq on ps, online stuff on 360 and kiddy stuff on rev)
over ms

I would first like to recant my MGS4 prerender statemet. That is truly real-time, however I would like to point out it is not a playable demo. I would also like to point out the xbox360 is capable of displaying graphics of that caliber as well. What will really sell MGS4 is its gameplay. Taking the history of the developer, everything is most likely hype, because last time he didn't do a good job on delivering. Secondly, Darkblu the 7 controllers aren't needed because the xbox360 is capable of the same thing. You said lan parties, but we are talking about one system here. So you could only have two displays at most with the dual screen feature if in fact the game you are playing even supported it. The whole point of having 7 controllers is rather useless because when you have lan parties people bring their systems with them anyways. So not having enough systems to plug controllers into is never a problem. Are you telling me Sony will have 28 player games through system link. If so, I doubt many people can even fit that many people into their house.

The 1080p statement still stand beside, for this reason. When Microsoft announced 720p support they said every game will support 720p. PS3 on the other hand has not done this, which stands to reason, that the reason they haven't is because it isn't supported in every game or that they are currently unsure if it can be done in every game. Or if it isn't just going to be for playing dvds rather than gaming. Why wouldn't they announce 1080p for all games if it was in fact true?

The whole impulse buying is rather ridiculous. Impulse buying is buying a product with the only reason for buying is due to you just feeling like you should buy something. This statement couldn't be farther from the truth.

I myself am not a x360 owner. In fact, I really only play PC games. However, I just think it is ridiculous how biased certain gaming cites have become. When looking at both sides of the argument, the PS3 and X360 are both very capable machines and I highly doubt we will see any huge differences in IQ from the machines. It is my opinion that many of the features the PS3 has over the X360 are rather useless.

Sorry but you are wrong ;)

Lol, wtf is this? Now that's sad.

"his is because PS3 has the Metal Gear potential, Warhawk, Tekken, I-8, Gran Turismo, Killzone, and a dozen other high profile games that may hit day one to put a smiling face to the splendid PlayStation name."

Ok....stopped reading right there. What a bunch of bS.

that was a misinterpretation on my part - i was thinking of p2p networking over wifi, not of the number of controllers supported by one machine - my bad.

1080p framebuffer or scaled res? as it turns out, xb360 titles do not mandatory redner at 720p native res, even when that's their output res. so if you just refer to 1080p video signal output, i assume we'll see that in one form or another on the ps3 with just as much relevance to the actual (framebuffer) res as is the case with xb360's 720p support.

The whole impulse buying is rather ridiculous. Impulse buying is buying a product with the only reason for buying is due to you just feeling like you should buy something. This statement couldn't be farther from the truth.

impulse buying is buying stuff w/o much of an idea what benefit you'll get of it, essentially falling for marketing campains or other irrational forces' push.

buying a console w/o a clear selling factor on its launch day is a textbook impulse buy example. see, that console is not a rare commodity, it will be on the market after a year too when potentially something worth playing on it will be available, why go out and buy it now at worse purchase conditions (overpriced bundles, wasted days in shopping efforts, etc) when there are titles for the previous gen machines so much more worth buying? - you're saying that's not impulse buying?

I myself am not a x360 owner. In fact, I really only play PC games. However, I just think it is ridiculous how biased certain gaming cites have become. nobody said anything about the 360 being incapable or outright inferior to any other present of soon-to-be-realease console. we're talking consumer reaction here.

ps: since you're talking from the somewhat remote perspective of a pc user, consider that some of us have purchased 6 different consoles inc. handhelds, and just a single one of them bought by an impulse at launch, but that was due to personal reasons rather than falling for somebody's marketing.

Any Australians here remember Hyper's article many years ago called: Top Ten Reasons to Wait for the Ultra 64.

How'd that work out?

Seriously though, IGN is absolutely useless. I wish I could dig up some of the great Penny Arcades making fun of them but I can't find any. (remember the Gamespy + IGN one? heh heh heh)

Those 7 Bluetooth connections are not there only for controllers you know? Sony can easily release a bluetooth headset for online gaming, they can make their Eyetoy bluetooth compatible, etc.

Imagine two players playing a game online right. Each one has his/her own bluetooth controller and each has his or her own bluetooth headset. That's 4 bluetooth connections right there. Toss in a possible bluetooth camera and that's 5. So what's the problem Eleazar?

It's from the PS3 IGN site. So I can accept it.

The X360 IGN site probably would have done the same for Xbox if PS3 was launching first. They need articles to write for each site when news is slow. So why not throw something like that together?

Remember, IGN has specific editors for each console. So they allow a bit of favoritism. Nothing wrong with it.

These IGN articles(on every IGN channel) are not meant to be taken seriosuly,it is obvious that they are trying to be funny and fail but that doesn't mean that we have to bash them for that.

Didn't see that yesterday. Here's the truth for you...

xbox-360-is-not-a-revolution-20051122070558150.jpg

The Xbox 360's power adapter is roughly 1,000 times larger than Earth.

And yes, these 'articles' aren't anything serious at all, so no-one should be arguing with IGN's points because they're silly points not meant as real valid arguments.

Not to beat a dead horse (which as an expression is very gross, i mean why would someone beat a dead horse!! Poor little pony), and i know IGN's article was a fun and silly and not to be taken seriously, but i tried to put some sense into it and i think the approach and logic (or lack of) of the article is just wrong.
They say they will give reasons according to which people should "wait for PS3" but in the end the reasons they give are just "reasons to buy a PS3", nothing to do with the fact that in the meantime one could very well buy a X360 too and still follow those reasons they give to buy a PS3 when it comes out.

Some reasons one should have for waiting for a PS3:

1) he doesn't like X360 games or has something against MS and Xbox and just won't buy one 'cause.
2) he doesn't need all the media features X360 provides, or can wait very happily till PS3 for those media features plus Bluray.
3) he only has money for one console, and only money to support that one console, and he thinks that PS3 will give him more than X360.

And that's it really, the reasons IGN give have nothing to do with waiting, they just have everything to do with "buying a PS3". I can agree with all those reasons they gave and STILL buy a X360 cause they don't contradict each other.
The reasons I gave are probably much better and not only cause i'm always right, but because they actually contraddict the notion of "buying an X360 now", something IGN failed to do. Which is outrageous really, since they spent 3 pages for this article, but as i said, i'm just trying to put some logic into something that's not supposed to be logical at all.

Oh i'm good...
