IGN: 10 Reasons to Wait for PS3

I was reading that today and i was just surprised IGN would publish such a childishly written article. But i guess that's their demographics.

I thought it was quite amusing actually... and I think it was ment to be read in a funny kind of way. Still a funny read though.

i like it how some of their "reasons" are not really reasons but they are there cos' they needed 10 of them. The HD IP Camera,Hefty Expandability / Connectivity Options,Dual Screen support,You can still pre-order :) You can pre-order??!!!! Since when being able to pre-order is a reason to wait another year for a console, seriously the writer must be an intern or some thing

Did you also catch the line about Sony Reps saying some game will run at 120FPS. :)

Yes, that misconception is still being spread around. I hate it. Now we'll have people 1 year down the line claiming that the PS3 is overhyped cause it can't do 120 fps. It's another Toy Story all over again...

That list was funny, I could have come up with a better list... But not right now... :)

Wow! The opening paragraphs set it up as a sales pitch. Seeing as it's posted in the PS3 section and targetted at Sony fans, I think it's just ******fodder to keep interested readers (at a time there's no PS3 news) reading stuff that makes them feel all fuzzy inside ('see, IGN says I'm smart to wait, and PS3 will be a better system.')

Psh... I rolled my eyes as soon as I saw the dual screen support. The only reason it has dual screen support is because Sony decided to modify an existing computer graphics design to use in the PS3. If you are expecting non-cloned HD output on two screens... =D Well you can get it in Super Monkey Ball 3! Anything else, yeah right.

That was a weak article. There are only 2 valid reasons I can see.

#1 Blu-Ray
#2 Full backward compatibility
#31080p, but that's stretching it and only a few people will have such a display.

:???:

Does anyone else think the reasons IGN stated are pretty lame.

No killer app:
Don't worry their soon will be in 2-3 months. Also, maybe they want you to wait for the PS3 launch because that is when Halo 3 comes out. So maybe there is good reason to wait ;)

Dual Screen and 1080p support:
If I remember correclty not every game will even support this. In fact won't most be 720p anyways. Also, who the heck owns these. This could possibly be less than 2-3% of the market (speculative statistics, not real or based on fact)

Hefty expandability/ Connectivity options:
So how exactly is this going to improve my gaming experience. Will most users even use such features since a computer is much better suited for this job? In fact if you have a media center PC you can already do a lot of these things with an xbox360.

You can still preorder:
Now I think they are just making up reasons. This should be #10 or not even on the list. By the time the PS3 comes out, there will be plenty of 360s out. So their point is moot.

Seven Player wireless support:
Who in their right mind would play on a tv with 7 split screens? Any takers, didn't think so. This would require Dualscreens, which I doubt all games will even support, and doubt most consumers even have.

HD IP Camera:
sounds pretty darn useless to me, I already have a nice camera, and I am a rather ugly repulsive person that doesn't want their picture on the internet.(not really, I am quite handsome but you get the point)

Full backward compatibility:
This isn't really a big issue. Any xbox game you ever want to play on the x360 will soon be possible, if it isn't already. 212 games is alot, and this will continue to increase. Full backwards compatibility isn't really needed. I doubt people will even notice that their x360 can't play all of their xbox games.

Stronger Japanese Developer Support:
If your Japanese this is great. However for those of us in the rest of the world this isn't even something we see has required or even needed. In fact, I play a lot more games from European and American developers than I ever played of Japanese. Also if I remember correctly X360 actually has very nice Japanese Developer Support. When they say stronger do they mean 2-3 strong. In which cas, are these developers that only release games in Japan?

MGS4:
Was never a big fan of this game. I think splinter cell is far superior. After MGS3 lets hope we don't see a repeat of that. So far all we have of this game is a prerendered video and comments from the devs saying this is what we want the game to look and be like. Too bad you used a server farm of like 40-50 computers just to render the image. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Blu-ray:
Well it is a little to early to say Blu-ray will be all that it is cracked up to be. Right now it is just a huge hype machine because so far they don't have everything working. In fact they still have to get this stuff from working in the lab to ability to mass produce, otherwise you will be seeing a whole lot of nothing. Also hopefully businesses will be willing to spend the 2 million it will take to buy the machines needed to manufcatur blu-ray disks. As opposed to the 200,000 - 300,000 it takes to retool machines for HD-DVD. Which can be used for both DVD9 and HD-DVD. Lets hope there is support for this standard and it is actually needed for the next gen. Otherwise it will be like using a sledgehammer where a hammer would have worked just fine.

Disclaimer: It's been recently pointed out that I don't always get sarcasm in posts... if the post I am replying to was intended to be sarcastic it went right over my head, please ignore my reply ;)

Got a source for that claim?

Both of my televisions support HD, so that's 100% within my house (equally useless statistic).

Got a source for that claim either? Last I heard it was played back in realtime on the hardware, streaming the geometry, and Kojima was able to spin the camera around a static scene. How does that equate to a 50 machine render farm?
