Yippie! Arcade gaming rocks!

SC2 graphics smack T4 around with a large trout!!!
Not only does it have better backgrounds, the characters are pretty sweeet! I say the models' complexity are around DOA3 level, just a little less solid looking but the animations, clothing and accessories details are top notch.

Incidentally, VF4 cabinets are just beside SC2! I did a comparison and found SC2 to be more washed out looking with more 'interlacing' visible...
I am not sure what is the cause for this, since their texture resolutions look about the same, and both of them are using the same cabinets. Furthermore, SC2 is the newer of the two, so it could not be degrading monitors.

Question for all PS2 tech heads:

Why is that the case here?
Is it because of PS2 4bit texture compression?
Is it because of AM2 choice to use high contrast and oversaturated colors?
Could it be that SC2 is not running in VGA?

I swear if SC2 Arcade looks more vibrant, it will look better than VF4 Arcade or at least as good as VF4 Arcade.

Oh yeah, SC2 have some nifty shadow tricks, they shorten or lengthen depends on you place you hits.

Yeah, the Naomi 2 has a better picture than the PS2 based boards IMO... I'm not sure how much more powerful one is over the other, but the textures and picture clarity seems better.

I am not sure but SC2 monitors in my arcade seems to have like some mega looking pixels man! The game does not look like VGA out imho. Hence my 'interlacing' comments.

So the monitors might be one reason? Did Namco cut back on the cost with cheap ass monitors? Is Namco even in charge of the monitors and the rest, or is that entirely up to the suppliers?

I noticed T4 Arcade have poor picture quality too. Very grainy looking, T4 looks better on my home TV. Do you noticed that too?

Don't compare aracde games in an arcade as the monitor is dependent on the arcade itself. I've seen sc2 on 22 rgb monitor and it looks sweet but can't comment on vf4 arcade graphics though.

The monitors would obviously be different, and VF4 is known for using very saturated colors with dramatic contrast, so that might be the reason too. I think it's safe to assume that SC2 would support progressive scan as the last two fighting games from Namco supported it, btw.
