having watched these enough, the shockwave hits people well before the cloud does.
Is that expanding cloud a sonic boom?

It's likely a condensation cloud, caused by quick reduction in air pressure thus the humidity in the air condensed into water vapor. Beirut is quite humid.
Sonic boom also causes it if the condition is right.

The sonic boom is the ripple (distortion) in the air. Looks like a transparent bubble. The debris (cloud of condensed moisture and other particles) are going slower than the speed of sound.

You have to be kidding. I guess they won't make that mistake again (I probably shouldn't say that but it is obviously a macabre joke)

They were WELDING THE DOOR! I would be lying if I said this is surprising. That is actually EXACTLY how I'd expect something like that to happen. It doesn't get more realistic and down to earth than this.

That doesn’t seem likely ... there was clearly an unrelated big Fire already happening before?

According to reports, there was a smaller explosion, then the much bigger one we saw after that. The fire was in between.

That's... a really weird way to lock something up, as if they gave up entirely on trying to dispose of it because how else were they going to open it back up *safely* if they ever intended to do so?
