How Much Emergency Money needed in Netherlands?

It's a subsidized meal and if you can get a full one (with entry, dessert and bread) then it's a good deal, even though paying for one (or even a second one if open on evening) everyday pisses you off.

Don't know if it's done in NL and in current times but here we could simply ask for a second serving (vegetable, rice etc. or even fries!)
Well, that stuff was the "restaurant universitaire" and we had the "cafeteria" which was a different thing (in same buildings) : sandwiches and other quickie food.. much less waiting in line and much quicker meal but that's it.

You may not believe it's subsidized.. that pays for staff, energy etc. and wasted food.

€3 for a meal is pretty damn cheap, unless it's like just a few bites in size. If you want even cheaper, cook your own and bring in a microwaveable container, then nuke up yourself (if you want a hot meal that is.)

You might also want to look at Soylent? At a tad over US$3 per meal (if you buy a month's supply), it's only marginally cheaper, and you gotta REALLY love shakes for lunch I guess, but at least it's very nutritious... :D

btw http://www.amazon.de/ only available in dutch and i cant read dutch lol.
I assume you don't understand German as well since de means Deutschland. NL is Holland Nederland.
Mate its a first world country of course it's gonna be a lot more expensive than Indonesia. Food cheap @ check out what you can get in the aldi super market

Im in Amsterdam now and most things (apart from tobacco) are twice the price of the u.k
the rate is about 1.20 euro to the pound.

eg: a mars bar £0.65 in the u.k, its €1.50 in amsterdam
cigarette papers £0.40 (but I can get 8 packets for £1 from a discount store) they are €1.50 in amsterdam thats 400% more expensive
macdonalds are similarly priced to the u.k, i'm guessing it will be the same for other brands that operate globally like subway and starbucks.

yeah its much cheaper when cooking, 3 EUR can be used for multiple days of food. as for the food in university cafetaria, its a complete meal.To be honest, the food serving size is too big. one meal can be split for 2 person. I guess that's one way to save :D

i think i need to adapt my calculation of what expensive and cheap, the other students said that it will take time to get accustomed to the price here.

about soylent, there's something like that called "Energen" (not Energon :p ) in Indonesia. But its already flavoured, chocolate or vanilla. It makes me pass gas too often

currently looking for portable Ethernet to WiFi, i guess i'll post it in the "buy recommendation" forum.

Now you know why so many westerners are overweight...

Thanks for the information, lol.

I don't think soylent has problems like that, by the way. I'm quite tempted to try it though, if they'll ship it to Sweden. My eating habits are terrible to say the least, so if I could stomach the taste it would be a welcome change for me I think.

Holland, I've always wanted to visit the place. I've been thinking of going to a city that actually isn't Amsterdam which is the normal UK favourite.

Good thing when you have high metabolism (which at that age will be about the highest in your life), sports activities (or just use the bicycle extensively) and it is the only real full meal taken on mid day.

It is also varied (hopefully) and has raw vegetable, fruit etc. on the side which you won't necessarily find in your 1 euro home cooked meal or canned food.

So orangpelupa, don't hesitate to use cafetaria as a useful fallback and it's also a simple way to eat with fellow students. It is much underrated and has a lot of nutrition if you don't take crap like donuts and whatever.

Today is kings day in holland and a lot of people use this day to sell their old unwanted stuff.

I bought a Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 460W for 3 euro's and its totally dust free which means either its never been used or it has never worked.

An nvidia gt 220 for 2 euro's. I've been meaning for years to get a small, quiet low power gpu to use this as a dedicated physx card with a amd card doing the rendering (hope this is still possible) (i have a gtx260 but its a big, hot, heavy, power hungry thing and it would only get used every blue moon when running a physx enabled game).

Also bought a Dell laptop bag for 2 euro's. While looking through the pockets I found some kind of single stereo to dual mono jack plug.
Edit: it's a Airplane Headphone Adapter.
In another pocket I found a small resealable plastic bag containing 2 tablets (turned out to be Tylenol)
Only in Amsterdam do you get free drugs with a laptop bag ;)
They could of been anything though, imagine if I didn't check and customs stopped me on the way home.
"I bought the bag on holiday the tablets must of already been in the bag

Nvidia put a stop to mixing NV and AMD cards with physx years ago - such things really should be illegal, but alas. There you have it.

There might be hacks to get around it, but I can imagine you'd need to re-hack every time you update drivers, so I dunno if the driver hacking community of the world can be bothered to keep hacking just for the 15 or so physx games which are worth playing.

I used to live in Amsterdam. Ive gotta say its the other way around. The UK is more expensive

London might well be; capital cities tend to be. Then again, same thing can be said for Amsterdam, I bet... :) Also, our original poster should be happy he isn't studying in Oslo; prices there are absolutely ludicrous. You can pay upwards of €10 for a meal at a fast food joint, for example, so we're talking like, Tokyo level pretty much.

...Although Oslo is a really nice city all the same.

Btw speaking of Japan, I've been watching "You only live twice" on blu-ray (whilst eating blueberry pie incidentally; only way to get through that terrible movie! :)) Worst Bond ever?
