HL2: Orange Box Thread

I think I bought the Silver package which gave me HL2, CS:S, DOD:S plus HL1:S as well as all of the original HL and expansions.

Point is DoDS wasnt a standard multiplayer mod for HL2, i, and many others, had to pay extra since it wasnt included with the copy of the game. Doesnt matter if it was added to an account alone or paid for through a more expensive package, still paid for it.

Still paid for a game you mean. $10 for is a great deal as it provides just as much entertainment as a number or high sale $50 games. It might have been a mod at one point, but its a retail product now. Things in bundles are always cheaper per product, welcome to how things work.

But the price of HL: Silver was actually pretty cheap. I'm pretty sure I paid less than whatever my friend paid for the suped-up retail version, and I got more games.

Edit: But he got a lousy t-shirt or something.

Day 1 purchase for me on the 360 so I can enjoy it on my couch. :p

I can enjoy it on my couch, HDTV, 5.1DD setup with the 360 controller too but I actually choose to play at my desk and 19" monitor as this game sucks on a control pad.

Some games, even FPS's work fine on a control pad, HL2 is not one of them.

I enjoyed the Xbox version a lot. So you're obviously very wrong. :p

Im sure its still fun, in fact I know it is, like I said I have both options and have extensively tried both. Im just saying its much better with a mouse. The nature of the game with lots of fast moving enemies, often that you have to take out from a distance makes it much better suited to a mouse. The supercharged gravity gun for example isn't half as fun when your limited by a gamepad.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does any one know whether?

- HL2 Orange box contains HL2?
- If so then is it using the updated engine (as HL Episode 2)..?

holy crap, 99 achievements. they're spread across the 3 games and worth 1000 points but what's really awesome is how creative they are.

The HL2 ones seem pretty nice even if you've played the game:
*OSHA Violation
Kill 3 enemies using the crane.
*The One Free Bullet
Beat Episode One firing exactly one bullet. Grenade, crowbar, rocket, and Gravgun kills are okay!
*Pedal to the Metal
Beat DOG in a race to the White Forest base.

Some of the portal ones seem pretty interesting:
*Fratricide
Do whatever it takes to survive.
*Partygoer
Make the correct party escort submission position decision.

TF2 seems pretty well-rounded too:
*Master of Disguise
Trick an opposing medic into healing you.
World Traveler
*Play a complete game on every map.
*Friendly Fire
Knock down a turret with another turret.

I hope that achievement is actually from Portal, because if you can simply knock down TF2 turrets (the ones the Engineer class can build) that'd suck some serious ass.

Is it that simple to have one engineer's turret to take down another engineer's turret :?:

Dont know why, but the last 3 days or so, I've gone Half Life obsessed again after completely ignoring it with the surge of games that came out this year(or coming out).

I said I wasnt gonna do it, but I gave in and dropped a pre-order on the X360 version. PC video card died on me 2 months ago so integrated graphics is NOT an option

Hopefully I wont feel odd playing it with a controller

on the last 1UP show they talked about the orange box and it seems like it works pretty well with a pad. not as good as keyboard and mouse but they said you wouldn't really notice it when you're playing the game. I'm curious if Team Fortress 2 will have dedicated servers though.

That's good then. That should hold me off until I get a new video card, because Portal just seems to be one of those games that feels better in a KB/M setting ;)

I expect 720p@60fps with this boxset, Source is now an old engine and even cards less power then RSX and Xenos eat source engine for breakfast.
