Hirai: 200 package titles & 180 PSN titles for PS3 by March 2008

350 titles is a promising fact no matter how you see it. There is no way 95% of them will be 5-6/10 or below crappy games. There will be games that will suck, games that will be scored at around 7-7.5, games that will be at around 8-8.5 and games that will be at around 9-9.5.

It's not a promising fact if you're a third-party developer. People forget that games do compete with each other. Consumers' budget for games isn't infinite after all. If there are tons of games out there, while the install base remains small, then there's a good chance a publisher would lose money on a title.

When it comes to first-party titles, there's a delicate balance: you want to drive sales of the consoles with them while not eating the lunch of your partners. The fact that SCEA has all these potential AAA titles in the pipeline is not necessarily a good thing.

You do have a point

I am speaking from a consumer's point of view mainly though. And ofcourse even if the consumer's budget isnt infinite the consumer will still go for the console with the most games he'd be interested in.

Also they arent all coming at once.
If you check the list of games planned for each console from today till march 2008 you will see hundred of games on them as well.

Lastly the increase of user base due to a more interesting library can partially out weight the issue you are referring too. More consumers mean more potential sales for third party devs in the future. Not all consumers will go exclusively for Sony's first party games. There are many who are interested to play some games available on 360 on their PS3's. Besides the competition is already there between third party developers. And usually they are releasing multiplatform titles. Which means they are diversifying their portfolio through various platforms.

If the userbase would remain stable thats when things will go 100% just as you described
