Hirai: 200 package titles & 180 PSN titles for PS3 by March 2008

40+ games per month? Doubt it.

Once they secure the rights and work out the emulation, a PSX game released to the PSN doesn't seem like a difficult feat. So we should be more concerned with the 17/month of regular games.

Stolen from Neogaf, PS2 numbers only for North America.

Oh well to Gamespot we go:

68 PS2 games released in the year of 2000

193 PS2 games released in the year of 2001

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2002

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2003

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2004

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2005

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2006

200+ PS2 games released in the year of 2007

There's a search limit of 200 so PS2 had pretty much 200+ games released every single year and this is only for North America.

BTW, THIS is for 2000+2001 so you can see it's not cumulative numbers.

Can we quit the bot mentality now please? :)

EDIT: I doubt that there's enough expansion packs and Poké mon esque gold/blue/turd esque titles to make these numbers invalid.

I'm sure they will release a chit ton of games but the publisher support does not seem to be as surefooted as it was for PS2 which tells me to take these comparison numbers with a grain of salt. (although there are a ton of 360 ports still coming down the pipeline as well)

Sony is (and has been) saying, just wait... you will get the price and product you need to us and to the devs it seems. One good thing for them is Sony can produce a bunch of games themselves even without all the 3rd party support.

Just a PR stunt. There won't be 280 PS3 titles by March 08.

Or just informing the share holders on SKU distribution.

t least 15 first-party games due in fiscal year

Sony has promised PlayStation 3 owners that at least 145 titles are on the way to the US, which includes approximately 40 PSN titles and more than 105 boxed games.

The clarification follows Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai's recent statement promising 380 titles within the fiscal year ending March 2008.

According to an SCEA spokesman, Hirai was citing international figures.

The number of first-party titles announced for fiscal 2007 stands at 15, including Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, LAIR, Little Big Planet, Eye of Judgment, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Third-party titles currently scheduled for fiscal 2007 include Coded Arms: Assault, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Is Sony also double / triple counting the different regional version of software titles like Nintendo? E.g. Madden US + Madden Europe = 2 different games?

.

Stefan is smart. ;)

With that figure for the US by SCEA in mind, we can safely say that 40 titles for PSN don't include downloadable PS1/PS2 titles.

I missed out on a lot of GREAT PS2 games so if they can make em DL and cheap (~$15) this will definitely be a huge plus; however, the price has to come down some.

Fine. Right. But apart from Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword, MGS, RATCHED & CLANK, WARHAWK, Uncharted, FF13, Little Big Planet, Killzone, Grand Turismo 5, Afrika, FF13 vs, SOCOM, GoW3, Resistance, The Show, and Motorstorm, what has the PS3 ever done for us?!

[moral of this tale : Games worth a PS3 are subjective. Lists can included every title ever to come to the platform, as for some people that might be all it takes...]

yes. Count them in. these are the games that define the platform, not the other 350 average joe multiplatform titles. that is what i intended.
so fuck them 350 games gimme THE GOOD TITLES. I am talking NEXT GEN HERE NOT SOME PS1 downloadables. Anyway can't wait to see the RELEASE LIST

I dont know why you are so angry and rant about it but out of these 350 titles there could be 10 more great games on top of the ones we know, and even more simply good games.

350 titles is a promising fact no matter how you see it. There is no way 95% of them will be 5-6/10 or below crappy games. There will be games that will suck, games that will be scored at around 7-7.5, games that will be at around 8-8.5 and games that will be at around 9-9.5.

Besides consumers respond to a plethora of games as well and not to a couple of good games only.

Wii doesnt hold a candle next to 360's offerings in terms of quality, still the fact that it has a plethora of games to choose from is also a huge plus for it on top of the other "advantages" it has.

yeah i see that 60GB Storage space shrinking, FAST.

So? Should Sony offer less games online for people to choose from just because 60GBs arent "enough"?

More like he is excited at the prospect of all the good and cheap ps2 games being downloadable or he is being sarcastic because he thinks sony would never put them up for a good price. Either way, your assumption is most likely wrong.

There's probably a good 40-50 games that won't make it out of japan too I would guess.

The 145 figure is for NA. I'd hazard to guess how 380 was counted and of them, how many may or may not see releases in different territories. But we have a solid figure for NA at least.

Hmm perhaps you are right.

Kaz's number probably was a little incorrect because a Sony said it was at least 145 games with approximately 40 PSN titles and more than 105 boxed games.

Probably going to be a lot more but these are just guaranteed titles and at least it shows PSN games are going to be really supported.

I think I only checked like the last 10 posts.

still not a bad number. probably around what 360 has but more first-party games.

Regardless of the actual number it's encouraging for two reasons. They obviously recognize the problem, and are taking strides to fix it. What more can you ask.

I am not angry. I dont care if they count 1 game twice, one beeing NTSC the other PAL. I'd only play 5% - 10% out of them anyway, but bullshitting people.

I don't know, should they?

It doesnt matter how much you as an individual will pay. The important thing is the availability of games and especially good games for the total consumers to choose from.

Some will want to pay for a different "10%" you are willing to pay. And if their "10%" list of games isnt there they wont pay anything at all or they will pay an even less fracture.

All consoles have crap games and good games. None of us payed for all of them. Not even 5% of all the thousands of games available. Yet the availability of games made more and more people join, due to the variety of preferences the library could satisfy. Johnie payed for 5 "green" games, Paul payed for 4 "green" and 3 "blue" games, and Stacy for 3 "red" and 1 "green" games etc, out of the hundreds or thousands of games available.

I don't know, should they?
Are you asking "should they offer more games" there?
If you dont have an opinion on that you shouldnt have commented before
