Heavenly Sword (wow)

I dont get it, dont people remember what happened around e3? Prior to the showing of the arena demo screens from an old build(lacking aa, af, textures etc) were released and people assumed they were up to date screens and started claiming there was a downgrade.

Its just the usual suspects doing their usual thing. I wouldn't pay it much mind.

We cannot really make an accurate determination about the graphical quality of this game from a select few screenshots. We really need to see several more from the latest build and of course check out the game in motion. More than anything else I want to see the HD trailer that these new screenshots came from. That is what will really give us a feeling for where they are taking this game graphically.

Seconded. That sounds like a very good idea. However, I don't know when we're going to see some new footage....

I like the look of the explosions. Based on the fluid-awesomeness of the animation in general I bet the explosions look killer in motion. I am really impressed with HS. I have noticed I keep comparing most actions games to is, saying stuff like, "Lost Odessy looks nice, but boy it would have been killer as a game like HS!" :p

I really can't wait until Ninja Theory lets us see the new footage. The outdoor battles look very exciting. :D

The TGS demo exists, a bunch of us killed ourself to get it done... the fundementally reason it didn't appear on the floor was it has problems restarting (there a 30% chance of a crash when it restarts :( We are still not sure why...). I'm not sure why it didn't get used in the press release... prehaps we just went too much upto the wire time wise (we were still killing ourself Thursday night UK time...)

The screenshots are from a few weeks ago, and is missing some things.

Tho the work hopefully won't be wasted, as the intention is for the demo to be re-used in a very visible way... tho i'm probably not allowed to say anything about that yet...

And if anybody here is disappointed about it not being there, its nothing compared to how the half-dozen of us who really killed ourself feel. (The emotional and physical stress placed on the demo team really wasn't good :( ). It wasn't as polished as I'd have wished but it was still pretty good (had a number of peeps say it was fun, which I consider the most important thing, sure the fact that its was technically pretty impressive is nice but secondary to fun...)

oh well, just had a nice weekend at home, chilling, killing zombies... the usual :) now onto alpha, demo, beta and shipping it...

I'm disappointed with the frame rate. This game IMO really ought to run at 60 fps with a combat system like that, especially when you look at that "fast" stance. Otherwise looks great, and if I may say so I have definitely seen some advanced bump mapping technique on the ground in the arena scene.

I'm just not sure if "otherwise great" is enough if the framerate ends up at 30. Extrapolating from God of War, that's not quite enough for that kind of velocity.

First of all, cheer up, DeanoC. I am sure it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Concerning reuse, that probably means either there's another Sony event coming up (the october thingy?) or the TGS demo is released as a playable demo later this year. Am I right :devilish:

Sounds like a hint towards seeing HS in the ps3 kiosks? ;)
I'm sure DeanoC can neither confirm nor deny so I'll shut up about that. Probably wishful thinking on my part anyways.

Sucks you guys had to be put through all that stress and not make TGS in time. :(
But yeah, can't wait to see more of the game in the future.

That must have been a nightmare :( I think it's too much pressure to expect you to be working the night before an event like that..it's not the end of the world if people are playing the E3 demo, afterall, most of the people there have never got their hands on a PS3, let alone HS.

Anyway, this might cheer you up, HS got a special mention from one Japanese gamer at TGS ;)

TGS: Real fans give PS3 the thumbs up

Heavenly Sword from SCEI, which is slated for release some time in early 2007, is a swords and sorcery game featuring a heroine on a stereotypically impossible quest. Keen gamer Rei Itoh from Tokyo spent 20 minutes playing the game this morning and was eager to buy both a PS3 and a copy of Heavenly Quest.

“It has such great graphics — the cut-scenes between games are just like movies,â€￾ she said, adding that the destructible scenery made hacking furniture to pieces — as well as dastardly opponents — a welcome feature.

So people did like :D

That must have been a nightmare :(
This is a good anecdote of where working for shows is a drag on developers. It's hard. I'm sure every dev would rather spend all their time working on the game proper and not be rushed, having time to be sure of bug fixes. That 30% crash chance must have been infuriating. They're the worst sort, especially when in development/testing you are 'lucky' and in 5 or 6 goes missed the bug.

I feel for you, man. :(

DeanoC,

Can you tell us anything about the new model of Nariko in the latest screenshots? She looked significantly upgraded in my opinion, but most of all her hair looked more natural than in previous builds. Did you increase the number of individual hair strands or groups of hairs? I can't wait to see even a tiny portion of that level in motion. Any chance we might see a new trailer anytime soon from that demo?

Keep up the great work. BTW, just those few new screenshots have impressed many, many people.

That is too overexposed, it hurts my eyes, turn it down a notch or teen.

... And this was a game I really looked forward to =(

EDIT: Still have high hopes for the final product :)

also a friend loves the demo with its depth of field etc...

Not sure how many were sampled and whatnot, but given the company this is a big compliment! You're also the only western developed game on that list! And you guys had some really high profile competition in the same genre on PS3 there, so..really well done :D

on behalf of the audiophiles or people who get an orgasm from listening to music

Just wondering about the audio aspect of the game...
Will it be one of those orchestra-type theme or will it be something else?
Also, if there's the option of putting my own "prefered" soundtrack to play the game...
