Sony's PR sucks. Sorry DeanoC for having to go through this horrible PR nightmare. I know you are working hard to make a great game, but it's sad to see people in the media still thinking that it's an arena fighter.

As if it's some BS "Gladiator The Game" type videogame.

More like the gaming media sucks. There's absolutely no reason anyone should believe this is an Arena fighter, at E3 2005 this game was demoed with outdoor combat areas, and many sites have direct screen captures of these scenes. Also, the Heavenly Sword website is filled with screen caps of outdoor battles.

Just show the amount of research these guys do, practically nothing. Which is pretty ironic considering it's their day job.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Why do we know more than the gaming media when it's not even our jobs?

Because some (most?) of them are journalists, not gamers, or technically trained people. They have their English degrees, but know very little about what they're actually writing about. And they get their information from the wrong places, which in turn makes them write misleading things... It's like a chain really...

So why work for the videogame industry if you are not a gamer?

They know "enough" about videogames to be able to write about them. What's so unusual in that? You get that in all fields. People with jobs they're not particularly "good" at, or have much interest in.

I guess so. But things like not knowing that Heavenly Sword is more than an arena fighter is unaccectable. I mean the very first ever video for the game showed open field battles. You would think they would at least remember that right? :???:

Not that i'm defending them, but in their defense, we have seen no footage whatsoever outside the arena setting since that first trailer, which is now almost 2 years old...

Footage? No. But screenshots? Yes. We've seen newer screenshots that show that this game is not just a arena fighter.

They said over at gaf that Heavenly Sword "didn't quite make it" to CES, what's the deal, NT? Are you guys actually going to SHOW the game in playable form other than the E306 demo before the game is shipped? I don't get the lack of desire to show the game.

The fact that we have seen more or less the same footage over the last year and a half is pathetic concidering the game is supposed to come out in two months.. I blame this on Sony, with the PS3 Sony has just been overly secret thus far, and that doesn't just lie with the games either. Things need to change.

What better to keep the excitement than to make you keep yearning for more :)

You'll either be pleasantly suprised or don't care at some point. Sony is betting you'll care, even if you only get to see the game at GDC or just before.

Speng.

You keep excitement by making one yearn for more, right? How? By releasing tiny delicious morsels bit by bit, NOT by showing NOTHING, which is what's happening with the game, especially with the NO-SHOW at CES. I don't get the rationale whereby the game can somehow benefit from NOT being shown, unless it's an unplayable mess, which I don't think is the case with Heavenly Sword, at least I hope that the game is progressing well, but that's something they need to SHOW people.

The steady stream of media from e.g. Motorstorm says you're wrong.

More power to the ninjas if they delay it to make it better (i.e. meet their ambitious initial targets at all). The expectations about that game as the first thing that will show what the PS3 is capable of are so high (well, at least on forums, I dunno if "normal people" even know about it), they can't afford to release something meh-licious. They can definitely afford to miss the Euro launch.

Motorstorm and F1 are exceptions from the rule.
Most of the other games haven`t been shown for ages, and I don`t think it`s because of the quality of the games - HS and Warhawk looked pretty solid @ their last showing , remember how Motorstorm looked at the time ?

Apparently there is some news on Heavenly Sword in the Official UK Playstation Mag:

http://www.ninjatheory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641

Which seems to confirm the March release date which also appeared on the revised release dates list on Sony's own site.

That's BS and we(B3Ders, DeanoC, and nAo) know it. I wish they were allowed to tell us not to expect it in March. I don't want to see people crying when it comes out this fall.
