HBO producing A Song of Ice and Fire

The cast of characters is just really large, and will continue to get larger. I think they handle it pretty well.

Still if you haven't read the book it is definitely helpful to watch it with someone who has.

The pacing is a bit brisk, but the show is fantastic. The war is epic in the books and I hope the show can save a bit of budget for it. It spans a great huge chunk of the next two books.

Tonight's episode was awesome. Was fun watching my wife's reaction since she had no idea what was coming there at the end.

So it happened? It's about time, I think there's only 1 more episode right? Seems like Ned
lost his nugget
much earlier in the book.

BTW spoiler tags don't work on the iPad. :(

Yeah, the whole timeline of that is screwy in the show. Rob didn't march south until his father was beheaded. In the show, it makes no sense to call banners and march when your enemy holds a family member you're not willing to lose, such as in this case. Why the change, I have no idea.

I should add I love how bad the IMDB writeup is for last night's episode. Aemon Targaryen is not the brother of the Mad King, he's the older brother of Aegon the Unlikely, who was the Aerys II's grandfather. His father was Maekar, not Micah. etc.

OMFG! I love this show. Holy shit it's good.

Is HBO only planning 1 season a year? I can't wait another full year for this. 2 seasons a year would be good.

They probably wanted to keep sean bean around as long as possible. He is by far the most recognizable actor in the show.

Yeah but they will probably run out of source material as it is even doing 1 season a year.

I'm really hoping they don't try squeezing ASoS into a single 10-hour season. Assuming the show's ratings see a 3rd season greenlit by HBO's mgmt.

As for running out of material, GRRM's current pace allows for book 6 to be finished in time, but he's screwed on A Dream of Spring, which is book 7's tentative title. Fans are saying that book 5 required he finally work out all character paths and narrative events in his head, and thus books 6 and 7 will be easier to write. We'll see.

I hope they maybe pull out at least 13 episodes for Swords, because the pacing can be a bit too fast at times.

Still, this is the first non-cheesy fantasy TV series in history. I love it, I wonder how they will handle the
dragons when they come back.

Especially when they bleed out all context and subtext out of the source material in order to run through it at warp speed. Last night's episode could easily have been 2-3 separate episodes if they hadn't cut 90% of the content out! They are cutting out more at this point than they are leaving in!

I must say, I feel the series picked up after the second episode...Have yet to see 9 though

I must also say though, that I really don't like how they changed Sansa's role...In the book, I hated her and though she was so stupid for betraying Ned, but here in the series, they make her innocent and suddenly want me to feel sorry for all Joff will do to her

Haha funny I've naturally seen this thread here many times over the years, but haven't really paid much attention to it and actually only now realised what's it about having just seen the words a song of Ice and Fire during the intro of the second episode of Game of Thrones! Seems great!

yes in the books she comes off as a fairly spoiled little brat for most of the series while in the show she is shown as much more sympathetic. I don't think they dwell enough on the show about how she is the reason the starks and ned in particular get screwed. She literally betrayed her father to cersei! yet, it is just glossed over like so many other things. I was particularly displeased with how they left out the battle planning and battles themselves from the latest episode as they provide incredible insight into the characters. Tyrion actually holding his own, over confidence of Tywin, brashness/rashness of Jaime, methodical strategy of Robb (his battle strategy was brilliant in the book). Also they are glossing over too much of the actual physical landscape which is important in the book.

I don't know, I'm just feeling they are shortchanging a lot of stuff and all for the worst.

And yeah, in the books you eventually feel sorry for her, but you also think that it is all somewhat deserved.

Good ending, though I wish they would've put sound effects in for each egg hatching as described in the books. Probably my only real complaint about this last episode, which turned out really well. No idea why the Pycelle scene, or moving Cat and Jaime's convo from the end of the 2nd book to this episode though.
