HBO producing A Song of Ice and Fire

Good ending, though I wish they would've put sound effects in for each egg hatching as described in the books. Probably my only real complaint about this last episode, which turned out really well. No idea why the Pycelle scene, or moving Cat and Jaime's convo from the end of the 2nd book to this episode though.
Wasn't that convo down in the dungeon in the book?

Just finished Clash of Kings and started Storm of Swords. Thus far it keeps getting better. I read that Feast for Crows is somewhat of a letdown, but I'll judge for myself :)

It is for readers wanting more of ASoS' pace. But Feast covers a time period that sees a lull in action, so there's less going on. And it covers less interesting PoVs. That said, there are some really good scenes in the book that I've enjoyed rereading a few times.

Yeah from what I can tell he split it down the middle between characters we care about and characters we don't really care about, and FfC takes on the latter. Of course I've only just started SoS; perhaps my opinions of the FfC characters will change over these next 1000 pages :)

In other news, Brienne has been cast and the actress seems a good choice for the part. There are rumors about Stannis too, another good choice.

They have to increase the episode order for season 2. 10 episodes will be too few and the pacing will be more insane than s01.

I think HBO has officially stated season 2 is 10 episodes. Not that I don't agree with you, I've told my wife that so much subtext is lost translating the books over to TV it's not funny. Imagine if it'd been a 3-hour movie.

Got an email from Amazon this morning, my copy of Dance has shipped for tomorrow's release date. I plan on disappearing for a few days once I lay hands on it.

Mine has shipped too and I agree with you JR.

Still doesn't retract from the fact that GoT is the best fantasy series on TV ever and the only non-cheesy one.

Malazan book of the Fallen is very good, but I rate ASoIaF higher. As a matter of fact, I just finished the last book in the Malazan series.

I have ADWD on preorder in two different shops and wonder which one will ship faster. Being overseas should not be a problem but still I have no messages about the book arriving yet...

My copy crawled from Lexington, KY, to Dayton, OH, through the night via UPS. Probably won't arrive until 6 or 7 tonight, typical timeframe for UPS in my neighborhood, so today's lunch break will be a trip over to the local bookstore so I can read a few chapters.

Mine is going over the Atlantic. Isn't it amazing that I can order a book from Amazon.com WITH the second-most expensive shipping option and that is cheaper than buying it in Norway WITHOUT shipping?

Crazy.

I decided to pay a little more in order to get it today... I couldn't just watch everyone else posting that they're already reading it ;)

I saw some who live close to Amazon warehouses talking about getting it yesterday. So painful, that burning sensation of jealousy I rarely feel in my chest.

Some 180 guys got it accidentally shipped weeks ago ;)
For some reason the internet behaved itself though and I haven't seen any spoilers posted in frequented places. Somewhat surprising actually, considering that its popularity is rising thanks to the TV show, although still not nearly as high as Potter levels...

No, actually major spoilers were released. There was an article on CNN's site talking about two main culprits: a young guy in AU and a 18-19yo in KY. But the publishers worked with the dedicated sites to shut the spoilers down fast and I avoided such sites over the last two weeks.

As I wrote upstream, I read the first 4 chapters at a local store on my lunch break today. The prologue, which is true to form, and one chapter each for the three main PoVs, though all were previously-made-public sample chapters. Fifth chapter is one for Bran that begins with a, "Are we there yet?" I laughed, but didn't have time to read it.

Heh, I've only stopped reading when I've realized that it's dawning outside. So far quite good.
