HBO producing A Song of Ice and Fire

I noticed the intro is slightly different in episode 2. In episode 1, after aerial view of King's Landing, the camera flies over the sea and shows Pentos. In episode 2, instead of Pentos, we see the huge plains with Dothraki camps.

How did they make it? Is it CGI? It looks animated, even sculpted. It is very pretty and I find myself humming the theme song, it is very beautiful with the cello at the beginning.

Yeah, I can't wait. I've got quite a bit of leave time built up at work, so I'm real tempted to take July 12-14th off, lounge around the pool, and blast through the book in 3 days. First new Tyrion and Jon and Dany chapters in over 10 years.

I DON'T REMEMBER ANYTHING!

No there was something under the wall and then there was that girl who went into the temple and then there was that guy who shot that dude with a crossbow and then the ugly woman died and uh that other woman was royally fucked and the other woman who is angry and and and the girl who was duped.

I'm a little more than half way through Clash of Kings. I am a fast reader but even so these books are long. Now I'm taking a break to read the new Lost Fleet book, which will take about 1 night lol.

LOL Yeah, I think a reread is in order.

I'll spoil LotR for you too:

There's this guy who gets this thing and he goes on a journey with some friends. Then there is this other guy who is really mean and he is all "grr, gimme that thing" and the friends of the guy are all "no way" and they fight and the guy gets to the mountain with the thing and he drops it. The end.

IMO, everything goes too fast...The series should be longer

Is it worth reading through Feast for crows btw? I've gotten the impression many people feel it is just a quick cash-in

HBO has announced 10 episodes for Clash, so this is gonig to be a bit worse in season 2. If they don't split book 3 into, say, two 8 episode seasons, I don't know, a lot is going to be dropped by the wayside fitting Storm into 10 hours.

He worked on the book for 5 years, so there's nothing quick about it. If you're into the series you definitely need to read it, GRRM's editor is claiming book 5 is the best (grain of salt, she's in the business of selling books). I think Feast is clearly the worst of the series, but there are some good moments scattered throughout.

I felt the books had this breakneck pace too. I am loving this. Regarding Feast, it is the worst book on several accounts, but especially because it doesn't contain all viewpoint characters. It wasn't wise to split it up like they did.

Dance will contain the viewpoints missed from Feast and resolve viewpoints who had cliffhangers in Feast.

When the war starts, 10 episodes isn't going to be enough, wonder how they will handle it.

I don't think it was a cash-in. As the story goes Feast and Dragons were initially conceived as one book, but it was exceeding the length where it could be published as a paperback. So GRRM elected to split the characters in each book on geographic lines, and unfortunately all the characters everybody really likes were on the Dragons side. Also IMO the pace really flagged. It's not all bad though, especially if you enjoy hating Cersei.

I guess we're about half-way through this first series and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Basically I like it, and my other half is absolutely hooked (she's a Sean Bean fan, I haven't yet told her where that goes). I like the production values and I hope they can sustain the budget for the rest of the series. I like that HBO haven't watered down the more earthly elements of the story so far (ie. the shagging, the killing).

That said though, anyone else find...

- Tyrion Lannister a bit too likeable
- Catelyn Stark a bit too non-descript
- Cersei even less threatening

??!

I found Tyrion to be the most likable character of the series. I'm about half way through Clash of Kings btw so maybe that will change.
