Has your interest in Console/PC gaming dimished?

One thing that annoys me about both PC/console games is when they do a sequel that totally changes the whole gameplay mechanic of the game. I just bought "Spyro A New Beginning for me and the little fella to play, and it's gone all dark and moody. Spyro has always been a light mindless fun game but now it's trying to be something else.

I have given up on PC for now. Pitiful return on investment.

The 360 offers me the more fun, cheaper and more importantly hassle free. I don't have to worry about patches, drivers, crashes, etc....I really like Live vs. going to Steam for Valve. EA for BF2. Battle.net for WCIII etc..etc..

Still playing alot, mostly Frozen Throne. Aoe3 is good but its online realm sux. Lost interest in consoles once I had enough for a PC. Limited in my PC tinkering by more responsibilities as I get older so I can't afford all the goodies I want.

Consoles I do not think will interest me that much as I generally tend to go hard at a game, mostly RTS or sometimes FPS. RTS' and FPS' are hampered by the lame controllers on consoles.

Couldn't agree with you more, Live makes multiplayer easy.

My interest in console gaming has gone up a bit in the last few years, but that started from around zero, and I still don't own one. I'm also not interested in any last gen console but the Cube. But I'm planning to get a Wii anyway, and a 360 is a slight possibility.
I've bought a DS Lite, but rarely use it. I just don't spend enough time travelling/waiting.

Interest in PC gaming has diminished, but that is mostly due to the lack of time since I've started working. Plus, my laptop isn't the most powerful machine any more so the games I've played over the last year or so aren't that demanding: Deus Ex 2, Thief 3, Civ4, Fallout 1+2, Max Payne, WC3 FT, HOMM4.

Since I've never used Live, could you explain the difference? Do you mean in-game (finding players, chatting) or going to the websites for extras and information?

Patches download automatically, so you don't need to go looking for them, it also means everybody is running the same version of the game. Cheating is virtually impossible, so no invisible wall cheats or the like. Finding a match to join is easy. It's all done through a common interface too.

Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect, some games have bugs but generally they get patched fairly quickly(Still waiting on a patch for Gears of War).

My interest in electronic gaming waxes and wanes, though the fluctuation levels are probably fairly small in terms of actual hours spent each month across a year or two. The only variation was a 1-month period in 2001 during which I didn't fire up a single game, but other than that I've been fairly steady since buying my first computer back in '92 (along with Wing Commander 1 and Darklands).

Haven't owned a console since the Atari 2600, but I've been jonesing for a 360 for the past year because of stuff like Fight Night: Final Round 3, Dead Rising, Gears of War, etc. I'll probably hold off for MS' switch to a 65nm process for the parts later next year before buying one (that and a price drop would be nice).

AFAIK Steam and Battle.net games feature automatic updates as well, but separate downloads exist for convenience. The absence of cheating is a big plus, although it comes at the price of not allowing any mods.
So the common interface is flexible enough to accomodate all the game-specific differences?

My interest in gaming has dropped in proportion to my involvement in my family and work, but no surprise there really. However, my wife bought me my first console game ever for Christmas. Guitar Hero 2! I've always thought the idea was fantastic and was keen to satisfy my common teen urge to strum lead guitar to rock tunes and I get to do that without having to learn to play guitar at all. So now I'm strutting my stuff in front of the tube looking like a complete idiot to the amusement of my wife and daughter.

I think my interest has also dimished from the lack of good MMORPGs anymore. I still play Anarchy Online as it's still the only game (maybe other than eve) with some complexity. Alas once AO is gone there will be nothing as companies will now only produce mundane WoW clones to appease the investor cries for mass market simplified models.

My interest in gaming almost completely died about 2-3 years ago. On to the why: games aren't an easy, relaxing fun anymore.

People take the old ideas, add a ton of annoying things that require serious effort, make the controls and the interface so crowded that it borders on rocket science to get into it and then call that "advanced" or "realistic". Bullshit.

The last games I really felt were FUN and GAMES were Doom 1/2 and the MDK series. Everything else felt like work.

Yeah, that's the key: if it feels like work and requires much effort, it ain't fun. Period.

Maybe Wii will restore my faith in gaming, but first I'll have to get a hold of one, in a month or two I'll be able to tell you.

I agree with _xxx_. Games like Doom which I just happen to replay a lot never seem to lose their fun factor, while newer games tend to be, play once and throw away later.

Games like Just Cause and the entire GTA series are the type you can jump into and destroy destroy destroy. They're not complicated for the most part unless you want to actively engage in the story line (which neither require you to do so). In fact, I'm extremely happy with the pack in game with my new video card because Just Cause is just a lot of mindless fun and is nice to play in quick bursts while waiting on other things.

I seriously have lost all hope in console gaming. I am always at my PC (in whatever free time I get) chatting with friends....I have no motivation now.

Will it change in future?

I lost some interrest for now. Sometimes I find myself playing an old game. It is like without motivation to play a new one. As consequence I am holding all PC upgrades.

Maybe it will change in the future with more immersive and innovative games. Less point and click.
