Halo: Reach

Did not had any slowdowns on glacier when playing campaign and firefight.
Only slowdown in firefight was from lag because i played it with someone from USA.

With respect to graphics, I thought that the following stuff looked great:

- Ground Textures are really good

- Shadows are really sharp, especially the shadow of your own Nobel 6 character

-The sky boxes looked superb and generally gave the whole settings an interesting special mood, which is kind of unique to HALO IMO.

-A nice effects was on the display of this special sniper weapon, where you could see an abstracted view of the immediate terrain - nice touch.

-Repeating myself: the king for me are the plasma explosions and explosions in general. I like that they look so volumetric, I like the different colors of the plasmas and especially when a space ship or another vehicle explodes it was very satisfying and I often gave up my safe position just to optimally watch the explosions

I finally finished on Heroic and given the difficulty I had in some spots I believe I will be sticking to co-op to start/finish Legendary. Really hope to be finished before Fable releases. Still pretty sure I'm not brave enough to head to multi- though I did like one of the modes in the beta.

Playing through the game solo on legendary I never realized
the covenant cruisers flying in and glassing the planet during the New Alexadria level (mission 8 I believe).
I thought it was insanely cool looking and added to the scope of the level IMO.

Also anyone else disappointed that Bungie failed to explain
the Cortana you are escorting back to Keyes is only a copy used to process data found in that dig site just to be merged back with the real Cortana in the Pillar of Autumn?
It was the one part of the story that bugged me but was explained in Halsey's diary. It's instances like these that I don't care for the "know only what you need to know" method Bungie uses in their stories.

Convoluted stuff like the second spoiler is why I gave up following Halo's story in anything other than a cursory manner a long time ago...

They will take care of you Al:

Re: the level cap - it's not being raised today (as you have already surmised) but it will get raised in the not too distant future. We'll have more to say on that soon including the criteria that will trigger the global cap raise.

In the meantime, fun fact: Even if you legitimately hit the current cR/level cap, you're actually still earning towards your next rank behind the scenes. So, when that cap is finally lifted, you can potentially catapult ahead with earnings you've already banked.

That last part is interesting. Makes me wonder why they bothered having a cap in the first place. Kinda silly.

Well that's good to know. :p I'm fairly certain I've just got enough credits to be Commander now.

Maybe the higher ranks are tied to new achievements?

I've been really close to the max cap per day the past few days too, but stopped short by one game (averaging ~1000 credits per game). It will be nice if they increase the daily limit soon.

It's good to know our credits are banked until they open up the higher titles. I think I was about 45K behind Al. I will likely be Commanders after Wednesday's gaming is done, and likely be at the Colonel level in a week and likely Brigadier by the end of the month.

Lt. Colonel Grade 3 - Awarded at 540,000 cR
Commander Grade 1 - Awarded at 650,000 cR
Colonel - Awarded at 850,000 cR
Brigadier - Awarded at 1,400,000 cR

Bungie Interview in GDC Online 2010:
http://gamasutra.com/view/news/30824/GDC_Online_Bungies_Staten_On_Building_Worlds_Not_Words.php

Talks about the original Halo:

The most important lesson learned from the development of the original Halo, he says, is that place should always come before plot. "It would have been madness for us to write a script up front... and in fact, the scripts we tried to write got blown apart," he reflects.

So instead, "we focused on building blocks, on interesting places, interesting characters. We tried to construct this context for all the stories we could tell."

The cinematic and mission scripts came late in development, Staten says. "Fight the impulse to start with plot -- make an enduring place that allows many plots."

And faceless, iconic Master Chief, the hero of the first three main titles, works as a character not because he's an elaborate personality, but because he's the "perfect reflection of power projection," Staten explains. "Halo isn't great for its story. Halo is great because it's fun to play -- it allows every player to be this powerful actor in a rich physical simulation."

The downside of the first title's laser-like focus, he continues, is that no one made plans for the future, setting the team up for the "dreaded sophomore slump" in the second Halo game. "It was the perfect storm of design and technical over-reach, and who can forget the cliffhanger? Certainly not me, and certainly not my fine friends in the press," he joked of the second game's ending.

Writers shouldn't aim to develop massive canons -- "they're unwieldy and hard to shoot," he joked. "The best way to invite people into your universe... is to make safe pockets where they can play, with simple rules and clear boundaries but a lot of internal freedom."

"Don't be offended," Staten added, highlighting the importance of staying humble and meshing well with the design. "They want your worlds, not your words."

eh, that's why we love halo :D

HTF do you guys average such high credit totals? I think I average around 600-700 per game. The only way I can go higher is if I hit a Commendation or go batshit insane with a heavy weapon or sniper.

Yeah, I mainly do Firefight (I want little to do with competitive MP) followed by the challenges and commendations.

Any rumour as to when the other Ranks will be unlocked?

On average I probably get even less than that, but it depends on the playlist. If I'm driving the scorpion in big team slayer, well... :devilish:

hehe

btw, score attack, sniper on holdout -> grab needler -> instant win zero deaths.
