Halo: Reach

Well, you ARE in a shipyard/old ship graveyard in the last mission. :p You can tell, as leading up to the last mission you can see a whole field of downed/grounded/mothballed UNSC ships.

Ah yes, of course, forgot about that - an even better explanation!

Also am really finding armor lock useful in multiplayer ( if only I could always remember to use it)

Not only is it great in dealing with rarer events such as removing stuck grenades, (does it work on needler needles?), surviving grenade/rocket explosions, and destroying vehicles trying to splatter you.
But I've also managed to use it effectively in CQC, basically you wait for somone to go in for a melee, armor lock, he punches you, gets EMPd and then you punch him back killing him instantly. This is extremely useful, even if say you armor lock to early and he doesn't punch you can still break off the lock early and throw a punch at him as you're coming out of lock - still giving you the advantage.

I've even used it to kill Sword/hammer wielders, by armor locking as their strike hits and then immediately meleeing them, during their cooldown.

Hardly anyone uses it like that though and if I can use it using Bumper Jumper (where I have to let go of the right stick and hit X every time I want to use an AA) surely other using the default control scheme would find it even more effective.

Also, does anyone know how long the delay is between hitting the AA button and you becoming invincible?

Finished my first run through the campaign yesterday (solo, normal). Took me about 8 hours (the afternoon, and the evening/night).

Overall, I left the game for the moment with mixed feelings...ranging from 'phantastic' to 'missed opportunities'. Now, I am preparing my second run through with my buddy in coop (propably choosing a higher difficulty) and then I will take more time to look around

If I had one complain (note that this is complaining on the highest level) - it is the soundtrack. Did not feel epic to me, did not feel HALO to me...no push you right in the battle sound this time?! I will listen to this more carefully in my second play through.

I like the ending and the bungie type conclusion - it is cool that they thank their fans...and I wish them well for the world domination goal.

I had the feeling, in the end sequence, when you see your broken helmet on the ground and this women said thank you to the noble spartans and that they made the new beginning possible and all this stuff - sounded to me like Bungie talked directly to the gamer/fans and thanked them personally for making their new future and their new adventure happen - cool.

The planet seen in the legendary ending of Halo 3 is often thought to be Onyx.

As for the downed ship at the end of Reach, it's likely just one of the many UNSC ships destroyed in the Battle of Reach. Simple explanation

I don't think you understand what I mean. Bungie has been putting an emphasis on 'from the beginning you know the end'. This is from the opening cutscene:

schermafdruk1.png

On the right you see a downed ship. On the left nothing.

This is from the ending cutscene:

schermafdruk3.png

The ship on the right is still present. But notice the ship on the LEFT. It looks like it just landed... lights still on..

The ship doesn't look like the one from Halo 3 Legendary ending, making the chief's presence on Reach less plausible. But it does make me wonder what it IS rather than what it;s not.

Wild guess.

It's the ship that takes dr catherine and june and was it kelly(?) to onyx.
Why would do Onyx rank after gold in arena it must be a hint!!
You got spartan 2 and 3 fighting together in this battle.
http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Onyx
Sounds so freaking intense at the end.

inbe4 the sentinals form a new planet where the chief is floating too.
Because that planet looked robotic. And also inbe4 forerunner splinter group is evil as hell aka the Ori in Stargate:SG 1. I call dibs on this scenario and story arch for halo 4 to 6.

Wha'eva :p We'll see.

Anywho, I haven't forged yet, but I really hope in the future they'll put another forge map in and all the assets from reflection.

Started playing coop with my buddy. LAN works. You can press Y button, to get the network menu, then choose system Link. You don't need Gold for this.

We played 1 hour or so. The second Xbox, the Elite, occasionally freezed. It freezed often at the beginning of our session, but then seems to stabilize somehow, as we could play over 40min without a freeze. I wonder if this is indeed the beginning of the end of the Elite...

But then the worst case happened: my friend got motion sickness , it happens not with every game, but with HALO Reach it unfortunately happened.

That this is really sad, because in coop (as I expected) the gameplay fun exploded to new heights - superb coop game...we even discussed if HALO Reach coop is better than Gears coop ...this is like blashemy, because in our world, nothing is better than Gears coop!

Playing in coop confirms some of my observations I made playing solo, for instance: framerate is rather unstable, in big fire fights it goes down, sometimes it even stutters and you need to hide until the engine cools down. It seems to me that it is even worse in coop, as we both caused massive mahem. Although I have the feeling that the problem is not explosions and effects, but rather when lots of enemies are displayed...this is really interesting, because when you play the same fight again - it depends on your play style and which path you choose: sometimes you run right into a massive amount of enemies - framerate goes down. Same fight, take it slowly and take enemies out one by one, framerate seems to be smooth. Maybe I am wrong and it has nothing to do with the number of enemies, and there are just some kind of performance bugs or something like this??

So be it! This time, it seems that I won't finish HALO campaign coop  and I wonder if the dodgy framerate is partially the reason for my friends motion sickness?

See, I didn't have any of this. Scott, Robert, and myself were even testing some. I didn't get anything like that in SP 4 player coop lest a couple minor hiccups which occur in about every game. We tried to destroy the framerate in a game of FireFight where we had about 30 Elites on screen with fuel rods. We specifically targeted an Elite with a turret and all shot 4 plasma nades from plasma launchers on the same guy at the same time and then went on a fuel rod frenzy ... and the framerate was stable and remained playable.

I would suggest folks clear their cache if they are having big problems.

Another thing is really bad lag at times has given me framerate issues. Campaign and FF I have seen this where playing the same sections with different people or doing it buy myself clears the issue up.

That is interesting!

It cannot be lag, because I played solo, or using system link - this should be the optimum situation for playing lag free.

The problem is, when I realize that there is something wrong with the framerate - it must be really low, as I am not sensitive to it! And in my case, it really stutters - it goes down.

For instance: I tried the first mission on Legendary. Until you get to your first driving mission, where you have to protect those soldiers, which hide in this little building. Then all the dropships come in and bring some new enemies. I got upstairs in this house I fight them there - but I could see really all of them onscreen, the the framerate jugged, it went straight down - I turned around and run into the small "garden" in the back of the house to let the engine cool down - this really happend, nothing made up on my side.

But I did not clear the cache before playing...need to test this, if framerate gets better (I forgot how you clear the cache, can you tell me how to clear the cache?!)

That firefight custom was absolutely amazing.

Tested it today again with cleared cache.

Problem: I could not replay the same scene, as this time the first level was different - I meet the soldiers not in the building, but in an open area. No problems there, no massive slow down. I played a little bit more with Legendary difficulty (man this is really difficult, I even died in a normal firefight and not due to a plasma nade) until reaching the next battles - no massive slow down there as well.

I cannot really objectively compare it, I cannot replay the same scene (it's always different), I don't know if it is a placebo effect - but I did not get the massive slow downs this time, and it felt thus smoother overall.

If clearing the cache really has an effect on the performance of a game - it is kind of ridiculous to be honest, why does the game when starting not recommend you to clear the cache if it has a positive effect on performance?!

On the last level of Legendary now after starting my playthrough yesterday. It's very difficult but not chessy. The key is to be equipped properly and take it SLOW. My biggest issue with the campagin has been very poor checkpoints.

Sometimes, you'll kill everyone except one enemy, die and start the battle all over again. Other times, you'll kill a couple but get a check point or even multiple check points. From what I can gather, it seems to be placement/advancement based. So if you're in a big battle and haven't gotten a check point in a while, run around and you can probably trigger one. On Legenedary, checkpoints are a must.

I had heavy slowdowns too, but all the people I asked about slowdowns told me they got a pretty smooth experience all the time.

For example, on my console, firefight on Glacier is almost unplayable, especially near the first spawn area while looking across the map (where covenants get dropped down by the ships). edit: even when there's no enemies on the screen.
What about you?
