Halo: Reach

Before I bought one I checked that out. One of the community reps said they didn't see a problem with it as the mouse/kb couldn't input variables different than what the gamepad allowed. I linked it here in the past. If Bungie had said they were banning for it I would have never purchased one. I am not sure what other answer they could have (it is true) but also because the device is undetectable. The interesting thing is MS has licensed not only wheels, yokes and sticks, and arcade sticks but also game pads with Turbo buttons. MS has sanctioned a lot of input devices that allow different mechanical devices to provide the same game input data.

I remember the link. I've no problem with your using that tbh, as long as you're on my team. :devilish:

On another note, I've been looking into hooking the Xbox up to my monitor since my Samsung LCD is useless for gaming (input lag). Instead of dropping $40 for the VGA adapter, I picked up an HDMI -> DVI adapter from Monoprice for $3.75 shipping included. Woe is me.

Obviously my monitor won't accept sound over DVI, and I didn't realize the regular AV cable thing won't fit on the Xbox when there's an HDMI cable plugged into it. So I can get picture (the Xbox will even default to 1440x900) but not sound.

Now I have to bring my monitor into the living room and run the Xbox through the receiver to get sound, every time I want to play Halo. Huge PITA.

$40 for the VGA cable is still too much. I'd rather put that toward a new monitor with HDMI.

They are called Scarabs.

And yes, it would have been awesome to fight a few of them on the Pillar of Autumn level on your way to Capt Keyes. I guess they thought that would have made that level too long. Perhaps it would have, but not in a bad way IMO.

I agree the Pillar of autumn level was to Reach what the final mission was to halo 3. Stopping to take out a Scarab would have been fun, but it would have broken up the level. You can stop and take out the grunts on board etc and if you've played Halo 3 you know they are pretty easy to take out once aboard.

I'm pretty sure I have the VGA cable. I'll look later, if I find it you can have it.

Thanks mate, but I'm already set on getting a new 1080p monitor with HDMI so I won't need it. I think I'm going to get this one, but I need to make sure it will output analog audio from an HDMI source. Hmm..

You can jam the regular cable into the 360 whilst have an HDMI lead attached, my console is setup that way. Is does however require to you yo break the housing off the regular cable and possibly the HDMI cable. It didn't take more then 5 minutes and a bit insulating later job done. Never had any problems and I think theres a few you tubes showing you how to do it.

Interesting...

I looked up those instructional youtube videos and it was as easy as prying the plastic case off of the th AV cable with a screwdriver. Now I need some female -> female RCA adapters.

Edit#2 It's working. Observe the domination. Last five matches were just now in rumble pit.

For the flawless cowboy commendation, finishing a campaign mission on legendary or heroic without dying, you can exploit it if you just save & quit every time that you die since it won't count as a death unless you respawn and move to the next checkpoint. It's a bit annoying but if you already finished the campaign once then you shouldn't need to do it more than a few times in a level.

The only really challenging parts on legendary are when you fight a bunch of elites. It's surprising that two sniper headshots equal the damage of one fully charged plasma shot and a DMR headshot..

Dam i wished i had more time to play school is sucking up all my time gotta love how school puts people who never programmed in their live to make a xna simple 2d racing game. And i want to finish up castlevania:los last chapter.

Lots of people are complaining about "screen lag" (i.e framerate drops) in customs maps in Forge World. This occurs even when the maps are well within the forge budget (eg. $4000 of $10000 left)

One example:

Having downloaded a few remakes of CE maps I can definitely say this is something of a problem. Has anyone else experienced it?

Any idea's on what's causing it? Some are blaming too many pieces of interlocked geometry others the draw distance.

I first came across it ages ago when I was complaining on here how bad the framerate was playing the Cage 4 player split screen, not to mention the extremely agressive LOD (with enemy players turning into featureless, untextured blobs at more than a few meters away).

I really hope Bungie either patches this in an update or at least advises us

Apparently I was wrong about the flawless cowboy commendation, there's actually an easier way to exploit it. You can play the level normally respawning whenever you die and then right before the end of the level, save and quit. Then start from that save and finish the rest of the level without dieing, that'll count it as finishing the whole level without dieing.

Why charge for a map like Tempest, isn't it just another map variant of Forge World ?

It's a new map, but they're just describing it as being Forge-World class (big sandbox). And well, I have no idea what similarities you see in the screenshots. :p

I saw no firefight maps in that mix. :(

Yeah. :( Orbital 9 could have been the best generator defense map since Corvette.

I was playing a round of firefight yesterday on a map whose name I can't recall. It was actually sniperfight. Every time I zoomed in on a certain portion of the map I'd drop to what appeared to be ~5-10fps. Unfortunately a bunch of enemies were coming from this direction.

Don't worry, I still got an Untouchable. :devilish:

Woot! A new Invasion map!

While not as much as Al or Brit, I've played this game enough that I'm starting to think the occassional frame rate drop might be Internet connection lag rather than frame rate drops. I've played the same scenario on the same map several times now, most of the time lag free but occassionally somewhat laggy. And now my upstream bandwidth rating contains a big red *Warning!* sign.

Comcast sucks balls.

I'd hope a proper map pack would include at least 6 new Invasion Maps. The Invasion game play can be fun, but they need more variety. I was hoping for at least 4 new FireFight maps too.

I think the frame rate drops have more to do with internet connection issues between everyone in the game than with screen lag. Similar to what NRP said, Al, xxarthna and I have also played the same scenarios in Firefight several times now and never experienced 'frame rate drop' except when there's a 4th person with a non optimal connection (yellow connection bar) and we'd zoom in with Sniper rifle. Other times in the exact same section and scenario even with a 4th person with an optimal connection (green connection bar) we wouldn't have frame rate drops. The situation in question was 2 Phantoms dropping off troops at the large puddle on the left side of the Outpost map while we're on top of the Deck.
