Halo: Reach

Ok, I take back what I said about hijacking being nerfed, after a few games of BTB and Invasion can do it now with no problem.

What I really dislike now is how in the team slayer playlist its SWAT or snipers 1/3 of the time and in the Rumble Pit playlist its Infection every other game.

They really need a playlist with just slayer and it's less extreme variants. And anyone else having a big problem with dropped hosts? I'm starting to remember why playing Halo 3 online was so frustrating - half the games I join, the host drops at the beginning and it takes a good 30 seconds or so for the game to figure out who should next host.

Why is this such a problem with H3? I played MW2 extensively on PSN and never had anywhere near the amount of problems with dropped hosts - and if there were it would be fixed far faster than in Reach/H3. COD also has far faster matchmaking, any reason for this? I'm sure Reach has more player on Live than MW2 does on PSN.

The latest weekly update has a tentative list of things they're going to change in the playlists:

  • SWAT Playlist added (SWAT removed from Big Team Battle and Team Slayer)
  • Campaign Matchmaking (live on 10/15 – You will be required to have earned the Grade “Corporal” to enter this Playlist)
  • Team Slayer rebalanced to highlight default Slayer game variants and include new offerings
  • Classic Slayer removed
  • Removed “Pro” game variants from the Arena Playlist
  • Removed Boardwalk from Arena Team Doubles Playlist
  • Added “Return to Battlefield” volume to Space on Zealot in the Arena Playlist

The update sneaked in a hint at future DLC...

Some people with a keen eye noticed the expanded Gamerscore and achievements. No telling when or what that DLC will be though.

I hope not. I'm three achievements short of 100% for Halo 3 because they're DLC map-specific stupid ones like "get a perfection medal in MP", "get a Killtacular in MP", or "get an Extermination in MP". Basically impossible to get. Maybe could have gotten the Killtacular and Extermination ones in Griffball, but that isn't around anymore. Never cared for Griffball either.

Why are there only 259 players online in matchmaking?

Last night I saw "8 people playing, 251 players online". The next few Firefight matches were only Al and myself. It was odd enough that those numbers might have been accurate.

I'm really glad they're taking the scorpion off of blood gulch for CTF. It totally ruins the map.

Halo 3 seems to have better maps than Reach. Hopefully this will be rectified with some free or very cheap DLC.

Does Reach have dedicated servers, or is it peer-to-peer? If the latter, can one set up custom games? If the former, how are games distributed?

And I am sure it doesn't harm your affection that I have seen you go 32-4 in the Scorpion ... in a short 5 minute 4v4 match ;) I know I wouldn't want to be on the other side of your Scorpion attack.

Pretty sure it's all peer to peer and you can do custom games and seriously mess with the game.
So are there such things as laggy games and fast games? I'm thinking Warhawk where you pick the server and can choose one with a low ping, versus Fat Princess where you're just put in a game and it may well be laggy. Is Reach doing a good job of putting people low-latency games so it's not an issue?

Shifty have you, or are planning to jump in.

Just like in the previous Halos, it's possible to be put into a laggy match. This only happened to me once and the host was quickly migrated. Even Big Team Battle has been virtually lag free so far.
