Halo: Reach

The people that are with 343 studio's are extremely talented.
Hope that corinne Yu will push the 360 even further not sure how important she is.
I believe she's the Chief engine architect. From the stuff i heard they have a all star team but now i just hope they can imitate the bungie magic.

Got explained in the journal.
The Ai your transporting is a copy of cortana to do the data mining and to later be absorbed by the original cortana, to give the masterchief and the other spartan a better fighting chance to finish their mission infiltrate a covenant battle station. Kidnap a prophet to make peace offer for returning the prophet.

I don't have the journal.

But from the game it seems that the Cortana fragment had instructions that apparently led to Halo.
Because Cortana did not know much else of the Forerunner and the rings until she was uploaded to the Control room in the first game so what other knowlege could it be?. The "better fighting chance" was just the co-ordinates of the first Halo. This is in direct opposition to the events of the Fall of Reach where the data came from Cortana deciphering a Forerunner artifact in a museum on some world which the Covenant were trying to retrieve.

I'm sort of annoyed that the story doesn't tie in with the Fall of Reach - which was an awesome book with some events that would have worked as better setpieces than parts of Reach.

IMO Reach started off better than it ended, I also thought it was going to be amazing based on the first levels but it sort of plateaued thereafter. I disliked all the seemingly less essential missions in later levels like rescuing civilians, which could be left to more mundane units than a crack Spartan team.

Overall I felt the campaign was better than Halo 3, but not sure if the story was.

What I am now most concerned about is multiplayer, there are not many normal, non-Firefight, non- Invasion maps to play on compared to Halo 3. I miss Lockout and Guardian, the Cage is a poor substitute (also because it's too bright)

Hope they add more Forge World remakes of previous maps (though I'm a bit concerned about Forge World's splitscreen performance).

I disagree, while I love Reach, it really does kind of feel like Bungie has reached the limit of what Bungie does. Yes, Reach is a really great Bungie Halo . But the Bungie formula is definitely evident. Reach doesn't really do anything new that Halo 3 didnt, it's just a lot prettier, better level design, etc.

I rarely get it when people say things like this. Aren't the vast majority of "next gen" sequels just prettier, better designed versions of the past games in the series? Very rarely do we see a successful re-invention of a series ala RE4 IMO. Games like GoW, VF, RE5, DoA4, Ninja Gaiden, Madden, GT5, DMC, CoD, etc. can all be classified as prettier more refined versions of past entries, no?

The fact that the bungie formula, and design as well, is so unique compared to the abundance of gritty, brown/gray, scripted shooters out there now a days is what makes Halo so appealing to me. Reach really does capitalize on everything I love about the series: vast open sandbox environments, great AI, tight gameplay, and a lot of options to handle every situation so that no two fights are ever the same.

I really want to see Corinne flex her talent with an entirely new engine built by her and her team, I hope we see something this gen.

I also think it's best for 343 to keep what makes halo, halo, but at the same time find their own magic instead of trying to imitate (and very possibly fail) the magic of another team.

That was sort of an accident.

After all, it happens after you get seperated from Noble Team due to flying out to space to take out the Covenant super carrier. In trying to get back to Noble Team, the UNSC used you to assist in the rescue of civilians as it was sort of on your way.

Or to put it another way. Forces couldn't be diverted to pick you up and ferry you to Noble team until the situation in New Alexandria was resolved. As it turned out, Noble team ended up having to come to New Alexandria anyways in order to rescue some high ranking officials as well as taking out strategic Covenant resources.

The writing may have been on the wall by then that Reach was going to fall no matter what, but the UNSC wasn't going to hand the planet over without making sure key information and personnel either made it off planet or were destroyed.

Either way, it was only you helping to rescue the civilians during the New Alexandria mission and not the entire team. So no crack team needed or needlessly diverted to such a "less essential mission." :)

And makes complete sense why you were doing it even though it's not something a Spartan would normally do.

SB

Firefight matchmaking is fun. Just the right amount of time per map. I like being able to bounce between maps and playlists for firefight than having to commit an hour+ per game.

Really happy with this game and it'll certainly by my multiplayer goto game for some time.

uugh arena from Europe aint a nice experience at all beta arena experience was a lot better. Seems like i always have lag while bars show green.

Is anyone interested in a match with Gamersyde guys? Say Friday night? I bet we can get 16 players total.

If so what modes/maps would people like?

I'm in. But you should know, I am a noob in online multiplayer.

In that case playoffs for a slot start tonight :p

Just kidding--get on with NRP or another good player and shadow them, ask them things that will help them and be a support player. Being a good team isn't all about being the best individual player.

Being a good team is all about the style in which you do betrayals... ;)

Anything but SWAT or Sniper Fight.

Odd that you don't like 2 of the most popular Halo modes  I am sure the group as a whole will want variety but no SWAT or Sniper Fight probably won't fly. Maybe some suggestions of what you do like will help though, although you are probably the only one who wants to play Team TK Betrayal all night. ;)

Ps- Some of the Gamersyde guys are real hardcore gamers. A couple are active CAL, MLG, etc types. Not all of course, but a heads up. The couple I know who will be on were all 40s or upper 30s in Halo 3. So we may not be able to fly Forum colors all night if we want even teams.

Then again B3D has NRP and if DeepBlue / EchoEagle ever returns I would take him 1v15.

I see at least 4 on every night while I am on. That said if we get 8-12 of us, which I am sure we can do especially with friend lists, we can do our own thang.

@egoless
Where are these Bungie "F U videos" you're referring to? They'd be an interesting watch I think. It's pretty well known that Jason Jones routinely butted heads with MS. He felt they didn't understand, and totally hindered, the creative process. It's rumored that during Halo 2's development he got into a heated argument with J Allard and threatened to quit Bungie (and I guess take everyone with him). Not sure if that had anything to do with Allard being transferred to the Zune program. There was likely friction all along.

I've seen the same Legendary commentary and while you could tell that they had some things that they would have handled differently than MS, I didn't take it as they hated working with them.

From the commentary of the developers during interviews, it appeared that MS was a very good partner. What other company can claim to have the same marketing push that MS has pushed behind Bungie?

I'd love to, but no guarantees that I can make it. Gamersyde crew does not scare me
Only 1 rule: Al does not fly Banshees :D

Perhaps we should make a new thread like we had in Halo 3 for our online exploits.
