Beat the game last night and I'm still in awe to how massive the battles can be. When Halo 3 was released, I wasn't sure if I considered the best Halo game in the series, I liked Halo 1 more as a game but Halo 3 had more of the features I loved especially online co-op. However with Reach there is no second guessing, this is IMO the best game in the series by far from pacing, story, level design, features, etc.
Everything was cranked up to an 11 and given a fresh spin while still feeling like Halo to me. It was an awesome awesome ride and I can't wait to go through it again.
Also, while reading the
halo reach critical reception article at gamasutra they point out this review:
Pavlacka continues: "Gameplay-wise, Reach suffers from some pretty poor AI, both on the Covenant side and on the UNSC side. Your teammates will often make some inexplicable moves during combat, saved only by their inability to perish (unless the story calls for it). Attempting to set up a flanking maneuver is almost impossible; they'll just follow you around the map like lost puppies."
While the UNSC AI can be clueless at times, I can't see how anyone can say the enemy AI in any Halo is pretty poor. I wish I could say this guy just doesn't "get" halo, but honestly it seems like he doesn't even get good game design.
No it does, I was quite astonished at how much the frame drops during cutscenes - it's worse than any of the other Halos, Gears 1//2, COD MW1/2 etc.
You sure he's not talking about the parts of the cut-scene where it looks like it's from a camera feed? I didn't notice a lot of tearing and things like that usually catch my eye. Maybe it's like Halo 3 where the majority of tearing is near the top of the screen.
And yeah I agree, the frame rate is a bit jumpy during the cut-scenes, though I still think Gears 1 was worse
The cutscenes also look better than actual gameplay for some reason, and it's not just max LOD for characters, there's something going on with the lighting/shadowing that is above what you see in game.
This is quite common in games, or so I thought.
They've also nerfed the pistol which isn't good, they've made it much harder to get headshots with compared to the DMR/NR or the ODST magnum. It also fires much slower than in the Beta.
You think so? I get headshots just fine with that bad boy.
Edit: just played a match in swordbase but is the map so damaged, or is it done by the player. Somewhere around the end of my match i got to notice the damage could not tell(short memory fail) if it was like that from the start or done by player grenades.
The damage is there from the beginning. Though I don't remember the damage being there in the beta.
