Halo: Reach

Didn't get to play the Beta, but so far Heroic is the hardest of the Halos for me.

I'm about halfway I think with about 6 -7 hours total. On Heroic solo, I'd guess a 13-15 hour game.

From what I've read, no. Local 4-player is for MP matches only.

That's what I thought as well, but first IGN reported it in their review and now the Reach box art says it supports 1-4 players on 360 (ie splitscreen MP) and 2-4 player coop (this is marked as being separate from Xbox Live coop which also supports 2-4.

Also Halo 3 can actually support 4 player split screen in campaign as you can glitch the game into letting you do so, which seemed to indicate that Bungie implemented it but cut the feature at the last minute when they couldn't get decent framerates. So maybe they've managed to optimise it for Reach?

Played some co-op for about 3 hours last night and barely got into the 3rd mission.

The game is amazing. It looks like bungie just decided to throw as many enemies as possible to give us hell and I'm lovin it. :p Even though there are usually multiple deaths at every encounter, more often than not I'm still near death at the end of every battle. 3 player co-op, on legendary, no skulls, and we were still getting our butts handed to us. Finishing legendary alone will be a lot of fun, I can tell that already.

IMO the game is absolutely gorgeous, from the textures, lighting, animation, and overall scale of it all. I've only noticed it stutter once at the end of the second mission during gameplay and a few stutters here and there during cut-scenes, but it's been nice and smooth otherwise.

I've got mine, but at work so can't play it yet. Why does the box say 2-4 player coop on Xbox 360? Did they implement 4 player split screen for campaign?

Is Heroic much harder than the same difficulty in H3?

I doubt it will be as hard as Heroic was back in H1/H2.

Also anyone know what tweaks to weapons were made since the Beta? Has the magnum been nerfed? is the AR is usable now? Gravity Hammer neutered?

Only 2 player local and 4 player on live.

Also Heroic and legendary are harder than previous halos IIRC.

I know the AR has been beefed a bit, walking and turning speed was also slightly increased, otherwise I don't think they really specified the tweaks made. My memory could be bad, but it does look like the bloom effect on the DMR is less severe.

Unfortunately I have to wait two weeks until I can play it
can you say something about the soundtrack?!
Is is as epic as HALO and HALO2 soundtrack?

The soundtrack is awesome and does an excellent job setting the tone pulling you into the moment. Originally while watching the E3 2010 campaign trailer, I wasn't completely sold on the more hardcore/rock type of music, but the few times it has popped up during the couple missions, it really got me pumped to kick some covenant ass. Very epic and very Marty, need I say more? :p

I will say that I'm not the biggest fan of the male voice actor for noble six. He hasn't really spoken much, but it seems to be hit or miss with him. He either sounds good or he sounds forced, but in this regard only one line he spoke really stood out for me which would be the end of the opening cut-scene.

Bought it. Didn't plan to, don't really have any time to play at the moment and am not much of a fan of the Halo games anyway.

But had to go to the supermarket to pick up some fish and walked out with Reach.

I'm such a sheep :(

Picked it up at lunch and played for about 30 minutes before heading back to the office. The game is crazy hard, but I think that is mostly down to me adjusting to the playstyle of Reach. Targeting feels wayyy different than Halo 1-2-3-ODST. I can’t point to exactly what is different, but after playing Halo 1 and 3 through last week Reach feels really odd. Goes double for the DMR, I just can’t figure out how to use the weapon. I am sure once I play it more I will settle in. I also thought the voice acting was kind of flat on the first mission. There is some radio chatter that you would expect to be ‘PORKCHOP SANDWICHES - HOLY SHIT GET THE FUCK OUT’ style and it comes across like some guy reading back my order in the Chickfila drive thru. It was only a couple lines though, and by the beginning of the 2nd mission everything seemed to fall into place. Really looking forward to playing more tonight.

I picked it up at Walmart when I got off work at 4 am. My son will like the knit REach cap that came with it, and my wife will like the $20 Walmart gift that also came with it. My son and myself will be playing some co-op after he is done with homework.

Mine arrives tomorrow, the delivery service messed up and couldn't bring it out today. Oh well I'm so tired I couldn't press gamepad buttons anyway ;)

Is it me or does reach tears heavily in some cutscenes or is that just the way they wanted to show those cutscenes bungie said they wanted to show it like a war docu.

Under gameplay i dont really notice them elite take way to much attention to look for graphical imperfections.

I've been reading people opinions and some amazing, very well written reviews..., Basically everyone agree that this is the best Halo to date, total awesomeness, especially mentioning the unique AI Halo has, which is worth telling about, and the elites.

They say every game is totally different, and the reactions of the AI is unpredictable.

I'm happy for Bungie. They have done a great job and that was the best way to say goodbye. I am an ex-Halo fan, as Halo 3 disappointed me so. so much, but judging from other intelligent, interesting opinions and reviews I'm going to give this game a try sooner or later.

For Bungie; Halo 1 and 2 were awesome. I'm glad to hear Halo Reach is similar to those, just better.

No it does, I was quite astonished at how much the frame drops during cutscenes - it's worse than any of the other Halos, Gears 1//2, COD MW1/2 etc.

The cutscenes also look better than actual gameplay for some reason, and it's not just max LOD for characters, there's something going on with the lighting/shadowing that is above what you see in game.

The AI though is amazing, Elites are scary, I can't believe how difficult it is to fight just 3 normal Elites in a small area. Much harder than the Brutes in H3, they really were only a challeng when they had brute shots, fuel rod guns or hammers, otherwise they'd just stand still beating their chest and let you shoot them or just run straight at you.

Here you can try to melee an Elite only to have him sidestep and melee you in the back.
And it is very hard to get consecutive shots on them with the DMR/magnum due to their rapid movement.

They've also nerfed the pistol which isn't good, they've made it much harder to get headshots with compared to the DMR/NR or the ODST magnum. It also fires much slower than in the Beta.

AR is much better than the Beta though, probably better than H3's AR as you now can carry 600 bullets in reserve rather than the 300 something in H3.

I'm up to the second level so far and this game already seems to be in a different league compared to Halo 3, it really is the next generation Halo game many of us expected Halo 3 to be.

I think it was mentioned in their ViDoc that it was a form of LOD. I believe it was the Forge one.

They've been doing LOD since H2, it's more than just that - it's something about replacing full 3D models with 2D images at a certain distance.

Also, apparently the plasma pistol is slightly overpowered, only 10 (vs 25 in H3) shots to kill and it can be fired very quickly. Might be useful for people who aren't good at headshot finishing with a magnum/DMR (especially since the magnum has been nerfed since beta).
