I noticed that shadows disappear very quickly. Seems to be a short distance where player/AI shadows are visible.
I noticed this too, but it seemed really inconsistent. For example the farmer that you talk to in the beginning of the first level disappears when you're 5 feet away. However I've seen friends in co-op that were much further and still had a shadow under them. Not sure if I'm just mistaken or if there really are different levels of pop-in with shadows, need to play around with it more.
I guess this is well known, dunno if this is the correct place for it..

I think I remember a presentation given by bungie on their streaming tech for Halo 3 and how they had a priority system in place for the sound that determined what sounds can or can not be produced if you had a HDD attached or not. So maybe it has something to do with their streaming tech in Reach? Can't imagine what it would be, but just a thought
