Halo Master Chief Collection [H:MCC] [XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

Digital women. Always changing their minds.
 Yes, not much different than human women. Where things can defy all logic, and become life mysteries. What's wrong can be right and what's right can be wrong, while sometimes things click as expected.
Sometimes you wonder what are the odds of getting things right or not....

I wouldn't consider the books to be 100% factual. 343 will and should rewrite the backstory to fit their current needs whenever necessary. They seem to have some ideas about where they're going with the story in the second trilogy and if it requires some retconing, they shouldn't hold back - after all, Bungie probably didn't seriously plan to actually continue the story after Halo 3.

And all in all the story seems to be secondary to the game itself. Halo 5 should really go beyond anything the series has done before, it's a new generation of consoles and it's been enough from more of the same (or even less). H4 was in the end a safe move, selling enough copies to make a profit but not really moving the franchise forward. They should be willing to take more risks, and the system also needs a game to show what it can do in capable hands. 343 seems to be in the best position to make that game.

I remember seeing this from Frankie maybe in a video, so agreed.

Yeah, I remember the "luck" thing too, but it seems like there was a bit more to him that got Cortana's panties in a bunch?

I don't know, it's been a long time since I read that book.

For some reason I remember the reference in one of the books as well. Could be totally of my rocker and getting my mediums confused though.

I wonder if Cortana attraction to the Chief is something subliminal transferred from the Halsey OG that she is based on. From what I remember, Halsey saw something unique/special in the childhood Chief as well.

LOL, Halsey was a cougar!

Seriously though, it seemed to me that Halsey had a maternal instinct thing going for all the Spartan II children, especially John. She was obviously conflicted about what she (and the UNSC) was doing to them. I suppose it's possible that Cortana's AI interpreted that "maternal love" for "romantic love".

Cortana is more like Halsey's daughter.
I don't think the AI is a complete match of the original...based on, I guess.

If anything, Halsey is like the mother-in-law.

I don't know about you guys here, but maybe i'm weird. But i never ever finished the first HALO game on my Xbox. :D I already played some levels. If i'm not mistaken, the last level i played was when my character was in the high-level building, and then i can drive some kind of small hover boat in order to kill enemies. And then, i just stopped playing it. Maybe, i'm not really into a full Sci-Fi games. That's why i never liked Star Wars or Star Trek. :D

But i really insanely love playing Doom: Resurrection of Evil. Probably the best FPS game i've ever played. I also liked Bioshock Infinite and many more like those games.

That is how I took it from the book, that Cortana already had this infatuation with John due to Halsey. Halsey blushes in the book when Cortana asks if she thinks he is attractive. Halsey makes a reference to him being quite possible the luckiest of the Spartans, which we again see in the game but only from Cortana.

Cortana concurs with this in the book.

Oh, oh... Something's up! There is something going on here...

Halo listed for October release by a retailer (I guess it's Halo 2 anniversary, one of the best game I've ever had to play online and probably my fav Halo ever, along with Reach and 4 and 1).

Speaking of Halo, I really need to get back to Halo 4....last time I played it was like in Jan.

I think I'm only at the second stage of the game in story mode...trying to play it on hardest difficulty...

I have play(ed) them all on legendary for some reason, I still need to finish CE and probably ODST (I don't remember taking out a bridge). I think I like doing this because it gives a bit more strategy to the game, on easy/normal you can just bonk everything on the head and breeze through the levels. It will also take me a few months to play through the game, so I justify it in my own head that way. LOL

Halo Xbox One is going open world, it seems.

And at 60fps? Interesting...

There's been a lot of arguing about how Halo 4 tried to go for the COD audience, how it failed, and how it's basically a hopeless approach anyway. But bringing more of the same Halo formulaic gameplay might not turn out to be a viable alternative either, as there's been plenty of that already and a lot of the old fanbase has abandoned serious multiplayer gaming anyway.

This could be a solution maybe, obviously only if done well, and I have to wonder how they could fit the multiplayer aspects into it. Maybe look into Far Cry 3 or GTA for ideas?

Umm, "Halo formulaic game play" basically is (somewhat) open-world, at least in that you can go off an explore all you want without being confined to a small area.

That's one of the major things those knuckleheads at 343 screwed up. Halo 4 had no backtracking, no possibilities for exploration - it was nothing more than a lame ass corridor shooter. I don't think they "get" Halo game play at all. Now it sounds like they want to make something else entirely. It will likely be a total cluster fuck.

Meh, who the hell cares anymore.

 I care! I still play Halo 4/Reach matchmaking (more Reach than 4 though). I won't lie, I will ride or die with Halo. I bought an Xbox One specifically FOR Halo.

But I do agree about Halo returning to it's open world roots. I liked the first campaign mission of Halo: Reach. For the first part of the game, you had the option of letting the falcon pick you up in two different locations. New Alexandria was also a great mission that showed off Halo's openness in environments. I really wonder what the native resolution of this game will be though. At 60FPS it sure as heck won't be 1080p. It will probably be 900p or some wacky resolution.

H4 made some trade offs for the pretty graphics that they were able to push on the 360. It's obviously something that can be debated, but my opinion is that anything looking less good would've gotten even more criticism. It really was the system's swan swong altoghether; GTA 5 is nice but I don't think their approach would've worked for a Halo game.

Nevertheless, the new platform should allow 343 needs to push things on every front. They need to look better, at 60fps, with more open levels - I wonder if they're gonna show stuff at E3. Halo really needs to take the front on the Xbox one to make it relevant again.

I'm really just counting down the days till E3. We've been in such a Halo news drought it's killing me. I'd do anything to have some Halo 5 or Halo 2: Anniversary news right now. Considering how much is riding on MS to have a good E3, I'm sure Halo will have a big presence.
