Halo 3 : first infos *

BZZZZZZ!!! SCANS!!

Sorry to poo-poo on the party, but we can't do this on here.

Though there are grounds for appeal: they aren't actually scans, they are digital pictures of the magazines!!! :devilish:

Yep, I thought we were allowed to post a link to a different forum, but it seems it's forbidden. Once again, sorry for that, this topic is to be deleted.

It looks very similar to Unreal2007 , very good but not something groundbreaking.

Pics shown are in alpha stage. Here is more info from the interview:

On plot twists
"Halo 3 will contain more plot twists than any other game in the series" --Jaime Griesemer

On Gears of War being competition
"We've played lots and lots of multiplayer and some singleplayer, and yeah, it's really good. But it's also quite a bit different from what we're doing. I realize that a lot of people are concerned that Halo 3 and GoW are going to compete for the same audience, but I think that when people get to play, they'll realize how different the games are. Gears is a much slower game where stragegy and cover plays a bigger part." --Jaime Griesemer

On graphics
"A lot is still missing in this build. Weather- and water effects are missing, and most of our HDR isn't in there yet. We're still at alpha stage, but when everything is in place, Halo 3 will be the best X360 has to offer." --Brian Jarrard

"We definitely have another strategy than Epic Games when it comes to graphics. We'll never engulf our game environments in lots of details like that. GoW looks absolutely fantastic, but we want to avoid compromising Halo's unique visual style. That's why we're making a clean, sharp game as opposed to one with insane amount of details." --Brian Jarrard

"There are many ways to convey emotion. Graphics is not the most important one." --Brian Jarrard

On multiplayer and bots
"Multiplayer has always been important, but it's developed in a different way which makes it look bigger for every game. We have a base that we always build the MP part on, whereas the SP mode practically has to be built ground-up every time. Xbox Live also made MP in Halo 2 even more important." --Brian Jarrard

"A lot of people ask us about bots. They think that the AI in Halo was pretty damn good, and would work well in MP as well, but it's really not that simple. The enemies in Halo are optimized for encountering the player in large numbers. They would be a lot worse at abstract thought AI like 'I have to defend my flag' and so forth. In short, to create bots for Halo would be an immense undertaking, and we rather put that time into making new levels, weapons and netcode." --Jaime Griesemer

Why is Microsoft showing their cards so early?

Oh yeah the games are a year apart. Play Gears this year then Play Halo 3 next year. I don't really see how they are competing with each other being so far apart.

They want a big story around about PS3's launch. This will be on the cover of EGM in November.

Anyway, I've seen the shots, and I guess some discussion we had before about visual style and its relationship with "showing off" (I believe some we had specifically re. Halo) might become newly relevant. Although I do think it looks very good, and the shots are small/poor quality..not to mention that is is early. So let the buyer beware etc.

To the guys who haven't seen the scans.

Honestly, don't get too worked up over this. I'm a Halo fan and don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed by this, but there's nothing in those scans to get excited about other than the fact it's proof H3 is being developed, which we knew anyway.

If you've seen Halo before then you know what to expect from the pictures, as the text above says, they're early and include little in the way of graphical features and the "scans" are actually photographs of a semi-glossy magazine taken on a camera with a flash, so the quality is terrible.

If you want to get excited by Halo3 then I imagine there'll be plenty of time for that when we start seeing proper screens later on in development.

I'm surprised they are hedging against the visual style of Gears this early on. I mean, most of us of course know what they're talking about - even if they don't convey it as well as they could - but I think it's dangerous in this present 'textures-crazed' environment to say you're actively not going that route.

Just don't say anything about it at all and people will default to 'looks beautiful' on pedigree alone. Now everyone's going to be taking the textures to the microscope instead to see what exactly they mean.

What they showed at E3 was able to visually compete with what they showed of GOW. They didn't look the same but Halo 3 actually looked fantastic. Showing early visuals without all the bells and whistles is dangerous. While some people say that graphics aren't everything the fact that you can't play a screenshot goes to show how important visuals really are when it comes to marketing a product.
