Grand Theft Auto VI [GTA 6]: What can we expect?

Supposedly there is a massive leak of the game. Debug footage, code, and it's even rumored the source code has been leaked as well. Not sure what forum to post it to but I'm posting it there because it's the PS4 build apparently.

It's courtesy of a GTA forums. Are we allowed to post links to other forums? That's where it all started. Word is it's coming from the Slack channel of some Rockstar employees.

Says on the very bottom (and on the top) 2080 Super.. so it's from a PC build. One of them says 3080.

Damn, sucks for the team to have this all leak like that.

Quite an interesting thing to wake up to! Must've been a pissed off employee, or perhaps some kind of soft disclosure by Rockstar to steadily remind the public GTA6 is coming eventually.

Just as interesting is the discussion about release platforms, being that this is a PS4 build. GTA6 would be a headline reason to buy one of the new gen consoles with generational exclusivity. But, the smarter move would be making the game available to the biggest swath of players possible. Of course, such a decision is incumbent on the amount of optimization work already done for past gen and perspective release window.

Edit: seeing the mention of RTX graphics cards, so not a PS4 related build. A GTX 1080 is listed as the GPU for at least one part (38:36 in first video), meaning that some of this dev footage is prob pretty old. Damnnnnnn.

GTA6 likely started development years and years ago so it was never going to be pure next gen only.
Games started before new consoles are out can switch to next gen-only once they're far enough along. Plenty of development work doesn't require using demanding graphics or whatnot.

Unless this game is coming out very soon, there's no way it's still targeting XB1/PS4.

Yup, previous generation console support may drop but if there is nothing fundamental about the game that means it cannot run on that hardware, they'll only reduce potential sales by dropping support for it.

That may be the dev system. There are a bunch of videos and one is showing the PS4 UI and the game running from it.

This is such a weird leak, and reminds me when Half-Life 2 leaked

And how many have done that?

We live in an age where developers can't ignore the nearly 180 million last gen console install base.

Possibly. At the same time Sony and MS cant drop last generation either for the forsee-able future, it wouldnt surprise me if Rockstar didnt either for the next GTA. But who knows, could be early development, that video seems to be showing it running on a pc (GTX1080).

Either it's coming soon and those are representative graphics, or it's still years away and those are likely mostly placeholder graphics and placeholder art.

If the latter then they are basically focusing on mechanics, gameplay and all those intricate little details that Rockstar likes in their games which the engine will have to handle. Some elements of the final render pipeline might be in and some final or near final assets might be in, but if it's still quite a few years away then those will mostly be rough as they focus on other things.

If release is in the next 1-3 years then that could also just be the PC version with lowered graphics quality and/or PS4/XBO version. Neither of which would be representative of the PS5/XBS/high end PC version.

SB

A leak / breach of this magnitude could cause the game to pushed back a fair way.

Bummer for the people who've been working on this for years.
