I am pretty sure its cheaper to use smaller bus width. MS can bullies RAM manufacturer around. It just that, PC graphic cards are the ones that likely going to pay for it, if they can't get the supply up :?

But what is the timetable for 700 MHz GDDR3 like ?

another prediction: EVERYTHING is going to be on 90 nm

I agree with that. Sony I don't think is going to make it in time - still, they should transition over pretty swiftly post console launch.

    My guesses.

CPU Tri Core IBM 3.0 Ghz.
GPU 650 Mhz ATI custom chip with shader model 3++
Ram 512 megs of 256 bit 600 Mhz ram
    Built in WIFI and ethernet.
    Standard DVD Rom.

now THAT would be nice, as I've said all along, since 2003.

kick that main memory bandwidth into the 50 to 65 GB/sec range.

only problem is 1ghz ram wont be avalible . I think 800 is what is slated for august . But even 800mhz will be expensive and in short supply

I'm not sure on this but i believe they can go with a 500mhz gdr 256bit bus and later on replace it with 1ghz gdr and 128 bit bus giving the same badnwidth and it may be chaper at tha point .

Correct me if i'm wrong though

So 1.4 GHz effective GDDR3 wont be available by the time 360 launches ?

    This is the problem .

1.4ghz effective is only 700mhz ram. I clearly asked if it was effective or actual mhz . I said if it was actual mhz that it wouldn't be avalible at the time as it would be 1ghz gdr ram or 2ghz effective .

Please back track and read my posts

They seemed to have remove one core to put the extra ram ,so people should forget about PPU ,IMO.

    ehh..
question: From where does a dual core "rumour"/comment come from?
If it is a rumour, why does it have more "validity" than a tri-core setup (which is also rumored).....

from where does dual-core setup come from? It seems mighty strange that MS would have taken out one core just to put in more RAM.. dosen´t quite make sense..

Not gonna happen. Xbox2 could have an AMD64 and still last longer than 12 months, if only because MS have money to spend to support it.
Besides, DC didn't last 12 months.

They are, at 9:30 EST tonight ;)

Just as an aside, all the leaks indicated tricore, yet the alpha dev kits were dual CPU G5s. That has been the source of this rumor before... it could very well end up being dual core, but this could be a rumor related to the dev kits.

If cost was the reason for the cut, it makes you wonder how much money will they really save to go to dual core from a tricore. If it is a money saving move you would need to save a good chunk to offset 256MB of fast memory, which I doubt cutting out a core (what, 20-25% of the die area? A bump in yields) would itself offsete much of a 2x increase in memory. I could be wrong though.
