Meh alot of them are roundabouts/ I'm not one for details. I think Resistance is launch and that's up there on technical merits. As well as down there with art direction.

And I stil say LP looks just as good or better. better use of color and effects (love the subtle blur) and much better animation. Way cooler character and enemies as well. On the technical front, you could say it's a step behind.

Oh, appologies. In that case I'd say the "overhyping" graphics is coming from internet forum bugs. Specifically sixstar shootouts where GOW seems to be a silver bullet.

I'd say it's mainly from the press. Take one look at the amount of awards GOW scooped last E3, it's ridiculous.

Agreed, the "hype" is from people who have actually seen the game and played it (MP) and was able to compare it to nearly every other game coming out this year... in person. not just looking at crappy screen grabs.

I had to ponder for a minute. I think that's exactly what I would call hype. I dunno. We're all excited for the game and we're all talking making 10 page threads about it and there's not even much to talk about. The aticipation for it has kinda taken on a life of it's own. It's hype. It's fun.

All shots - except the obviously AA-ed first image of the hero and a locust - are clearly realtime. This one is reported to be from an E3 build, hence the lower (but still good) quality.

Those shots were all released in one bunch at the same time on this xbox site, so there is really nothing that tells me that some of them might be from an older E3 build, as you claim here. If that's the case i apologize, but nobody told me

You know, the Motorstorm developer has said on tape that the E3 footage was realtime on the PS3. No joke.

/me runs away and hides between the fugly FM2 shots that were being hidden behind their CGI trailers and the Madden CGI that was supposedly less impressive than the real game.

Btw, that is one thing that can be said about GOW: It has lived up to the hype graphically and is shaping up to be one of the best looking games on any platform in 2006... and even 2007 from what we have seen. Not much is known about the gameplay though... much like Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, MGS4, and so forth...

yep the gameplay is definitely not a Halo clone

It was designed to be a cover shooter and a slower moving game at that. The lack of a grenade button was addressed by cliffy on GAF a couple months ago and he said it was very deliberate (notice the aiming arc http://xbox360.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/55555/gearsofwar_13.jpg) but not as cumbersome as say getting to your grenades in GRAW.

Regarding the Lost Planet discussion i remind that even Keihi Inafume himself said that Gow is slightly above their game.

Keiji Inafune: I just got here, so there's still a lot I haven't seen. If there was one thing at the show I had to pick up and play, it would be Gears of War.

the gameplay in gears is all about trade offs, the delay to throw grenades is one example, another is the ability to quickly reload your gun with a correctly timed button press, but if you miss, it takes even longer to load than usual.

Second, I'd perhaps believe that you had no low intentions if I hadn't seen you bashing everything X360-related and praising everything PS3-related. You're actually pretty easy to remember...
