Gears Of WAr Ign Impressions (Very Positive)

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/616/616188p1.html

"Forget the news about the big three press conferences; forget anything you've heard about frame rate. While you are at it, forget about Halo 3. From now until the game is actually in my hands, the only thing we care about is Gears of War. While sitting in on a 20 minute presentation from Epic my excitement over Microsoft's new console jumped back up to a near fan-boy level. Furthermore, this demonstration only confirmed what we already felt about this game, Gears of War is the killer app on Xbox 360. "

Sounds Hot.

Why is this game a goddamn 3rd person shooter? Developers need to realize that 3rd person shooters suck. The last thing I want is a high poly, flawlessly animated character in my field of view between me and what I am trying to shoot. It's too damn distracting.

Hate to judge a game early... but that is exactly how I feel about 3rd person shooters in general. There are excelptions, but in general...

Because Xbox360 will mostly likely appeal to FPS fans considering it will be the home of Halo3. Anyway I'm really excited about GOW too, it's looks amazing.

Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I really don't care for 3rd person shooters. I don't see how anyone can really get into the second-to-second combat experience from a 3rd person perspective. Otherwise, GoW looks great, but I think it's a wasted effort if it's a 3rd person shooter.

Now, Quake 4 on the other hand . . . . I just watched the trailer, and I am excited about this game. The story looks promising too.

i actually have the completely opposite view.. I cant stand FPS but 3rd person games like RE4 I love! Maybe because i get nauseous from FPS...

And sinze the Xbox 360 will have PDZ, CoD2, and Halo 3 throwing a 3rd person game into the mix is good for sales/variety. You can do somethings in a 3rd person you cannot do in a FPS also.

Actually, a 3rd person game that treated the crosshair just like a FPS would be less annoying to me, but most do not.

Anyhow, variety is good. In general I dislike the genre, but I also dislike RPGs and they sell really well. Just a matter of taste. Kick butt games in a genre is good for everyone :)

3rd person shooters are cool. Getting sick of FPS games.

Pretty much. Also, having an actual view of your character adds a lot of personality to the game, as well as giving the oportunity to provide a bigger move set than FPSs.

Reminds me of Brute Force. 3rd person shooter, 4 player co-op, AI takes over otherwise....

Not that I'm suggesting anything...;)

As Acert93 pointed out, different gamers like certain genre. That's because you like FPS, don't expect most shooter would be FPS. Or vise versa for 3rd person shooters. Plus it seems the majority of FPS fans are vets. Not the "1 billion average-consumer" MS is aiming at. Anyway, yes, we need good mix up.

So a game made by a completely different developer(and one of the best western developers) reminds of another game and yet people are drooling over sequels to Getaway and Killzone ;)

If MS had shown a demo of...blinx3 looking like CGI everybody would laugh but tech demos of trash like killzone and getaway get a free pass...

 That's gonna get you very far on these boards...

Sigh is HALO was a *bleep*, you'd all be gay. Played it, was not as fun as say goldeneye 64. Over-rated man, good but not synonomous with sliced bread. Shows what a little bit of subliminal angled ranting will do to mind*bleep* the sheeple pit. (stupid fanboys).

(sarcastically) WE GOT HALO!!! WHAT ABOUT HALO!!!

Eat a *bleep* already, damn

this is one hell of a positive preview!

from reading the article it sounds incredible... can't wait to get my dirty mitts on it

That is your opinion.

First and foremost 007 was a blurfest with a pretty choppy frame rate. Nastolgia has a way of overlooking those issues.

I had Golden 007 and played it to the day I packed up my N64, but it was not perfect--far from it. Halo is a different theme, different pace, and different balance. So tastes will vary, but I can say this: A 16 player 4-Xbox Halo party was more fun for me than 007 was, and that says a lot. Halo had me contemplating buying an Xbox just for that single game. 007 never had me doing that.

The MP in Halo and Halo 2 is excellent. I cannot think of any console FPS that is even close to Halo 2 in online/MP features. 007 had bots, that is about it. And to that degree TimeSplitters 2 and 3 have better MP features and FRAME RATE than 007.

So while you have a right to an opinion it does not make it universally true. Just looking at the sales and how many people play Halo 2 online I would have to objectively say more people like Halo.

Well all those features are the same between those two games. Just a comment ;) That's why I said I wasn't suggesting anything else. :p

Nothing wrong with sharing features that other games have... e.g. just because Game A sucked online does not mean Game B made by someone else will suck online.

Actually, it is always nice to see someone else with a similar concept and learn from their successes and mistakes.

Bingo!

:)

Anyone know if the co-op thing is online only?
