Forza 5 [XO] *large pics inside*

@Cyan - I uploaded a tune for Yas South, in practice I have done some low 1:09's with it. Search under my gamertag and take it for a spin, it is a bit front limited but otherwise it is really well balanced and well behaved. Not good at all for tracks that need speed, and I have worked out the brakes to be friendly even without abs.

This track is interesting, I have had some great setups but the compromise needed between speed and handling is really needed. I went with a HP setup where all other suspension parts/tires were stock and could put it into the 1:11's. So I am really finding this track to be a fun challenge, easy to make a mistake and lose lots of time.

Edit: Probably give up in a day or two, I think 1:06's are the time to beat and I have not been able to find a setup to take me there. I think I am giving up too much top speed for corner stability over the kerbs. Trying to decide what track to play on next?

Okay Jwm, whenever I play the game again I shall give your setup and the car you use a try. I think I don't have it. I purchased a few cars lately, but not many, and certainly not the car with which you set that record.

I am not going to break the land speed record with it, but I think that perhaps I can make a decent time.

Just starting to find my groove in Forza 5, and could use a few more "friendly" faces in the Rivals and Driveatar list, so if anyone wants to add me to their friend list, my gamer tag is "Onkl Bjorni" (without the "")

Jwm, I sent you a friend request.

I did some online races for the first time and that did not go well, what a mess for me. I think I will stick with the Drivatars! I hit someone in one race and I do not have names turned on, I feel bad but after watching everyone else hit on each other he probably won't notice. I had a ghosted car turn solid just as I crossed it as well, that sucked.

Added you both, I need to figure out where the confirm friend option went? I just searched for your names and added you, is that the new way?

I am having more fun with the game now, and I am used to the simulation steering but that took a few days. I used to race RC cars many years ago, I wish there was a controller adapter or even a controller styled like a pro RC transmitter - something like VRC Pro allows.

I had added you previously already. Thanks for sharing the setup Jwm!! I improved my time using your setup within the first 10 laps and decreased my lap time to 1:10:398, iirc.

The car brakes like a dream and the acceleration, gear tuning is just PERFECT for that track in particular. No wonder you always shaved some time off of mine when coming out of corners back when I held the record. I think Onkl also beat me at that track, I will be coming back with a vengeance guys. :p

The car is slightly tail happy compared to the Audi RS3 Sportback, but the Audi grips like a board -as we say here-, so it's difficult, really difficult to beat in that department, although the acceleration -long gears-, braking is far from being so good as in your car/setup.

Trying your car has encouraged me to tune the setups a little more.

On a different note, you can claim a free car in Forza 5 as a Xmas gift if you have the Limited Collector's Edition.

A complicated decision for me, they gave me the Formula 1 car Lotus E21 and LaFerrari for free, but now it is you who must choose the car.

I am going either Lamborghini or Dodge Viper or McLaren P1... I don't know yet. I just want to buy one of the most expensive cars so I can save a LOT credits for later.

The news fully explains how you can get the free car here. I am in the process right now.

Update. It is easy as pie!! You have to go to the link below! (btw, I got a message yesterday that said I got gifted the Boss Mustang 302, it might be the one with the Halo livery, I haven't checked my cars' list yet, I have like 15 or so)

I gotta check the ratings and prices of the cars in the game first before deciding which one.

A tough choice if you ask me. :smile2:

I chose.... The Saleen S7 is and always has been one of my favourite cars. After much consideration I decided that I am going to save the moneys for the truly expensive cars by levelling up normally.

p.s. many, many thanks to the mod that compiled my raw copy/paste list of cars and made it neat and tidy looking. Whoever he/she was, you are awesome. Thanks!

I have a million credits just from doing the rival hot lapping at 2am. Woohoo!

Yup, the game shows some very promising possibilities in regards to the sound -the 2008 Viper STR10 ACR sounds very nice, more noticeable if you use the bonnet camera- and it is one of most important things in games for me.

Other cars sound ok, just very generic. Improved sound is my top priority for Forza 6.

Way cool...

I hope we have more and more contests like that. Alas, despite the many things that can inspire me to try designs, I don't have that art skills to try something as meaningful as I'd like to. :/

Having your design making it into the real world for a professional race is quite nice. Congratz to the Belgian guy who won the design contest.

There are games like Project Cars that are up to par. Here is an example:

Forza 5 has some very nice sounds, but expecting the same kind of audio is just an exercise in impracticality at this point. That and things like the lack of telemetry are for now the things I miss the most from previous Forza games.

Number of cars when they worked on them from scratch, that I can quite understand though. That and the amazing Drivatar AI, which makes every race different and exciting, almost real life like. That's where the Xbox One shines with Forza.

But when you have things like Assetto Corsa or Project Cars in the horizon, coming to the PC, then you feel like things can improve in the console side.

I remember this game was fantastic when it first came out -

Viper -

Raceroom -

If I remember correctly, many of the great devs from SimBin have left to do pCars - so I highly expect amazing things from them.

Edit: In a race car you do hear everything like in the Raceroom video, you hear the rocks being kicked up on to the floor of the car that no longer has any sound proofing materials, etc. You also hear different types of tire sounds, sometimes on a treaded tire you can hear the individual blocks making a noise through the corner as you are not fully near a skid that would create a squeal. It is a wild and exciting experience, while your production based cars are going to more silent like in the video shown from RudeCurve.

Yep...that's exactly why I posted that video. I love the raw sound of pure race cars but high performance production cars unfortunately do not sound as good...in cockpit.

What is fun with single seaters/open wheel cars is the amount of material between your arse and the road surface is a scary few mm's. Karting is great because your seat actually rubs the asphalt, a few times I have wondered how I have not ripped anything off when bouncing over a kerb! haha

Well, those games prefer sunny days, and a beautified aesthetic that are more filmic than the rawer images produced by actual cameras put on cars on these videos and their terrible IQ. That and all the dirt on the windshield and other light aberrations caused by it. All things that were those games to try to replicate, they'd get a lot of crap from gaming enthusiasts in forums like this for screwing visibility and whatnot.

No, but Gran Turismo still comes really close. It really helps that you can set the time of day and the weather ... I was driving pretty much this car and class on New Years Eve with a friend who picked it because he went to see the real thing last summer. Biggest gripe on his end is the sound - the real thing is a scary beast, and the GT6 sound is off quite a bit.

So, I'v had some time with Forza 5 now. This is some of my thoughts on it.

I'll start with the negative / what needs improving (all IMO of course)

The missing social aspect that was in Forza 4 (Car clubs, marketplace for cars, tunes and liveries, but supposedly a marketplace is coming, so there is still hope on that front)

Number of tracks. Now, i do understand their point about the time and resources required to remake the tracks in the quality they wanted, but I think they would have dodged a lot of the negative press/reactions if they had included all the tracks from Forza 4 (that are not remade) in their original quality (in essence just upscaled from Forza 4), but I guess that would take away their chance for track DLC at a later time, witch brings me to my next point.

Micro transactions, there is way to much focus on this sadly. You certainly are not required to use them, but almost every menu screen presents you with an option to boost your xp and to buy tokens for car purchases. But as I said, no need to use it and with the Forza Rewards program I certainly have enough cash (almost 9 000 000 at time of writing this)
Well, that is my biggest negative things I can think of at this time.

So, for the things I like / see great potential in.

Driveatars as AI opponents. I like this, it offer for most of the time a far greater challenge the the AI of previous Forza games and I'v had quite a few races that were nail biting right up to the finishing line. That said, I think it still need some work because at the start of every race there is a big risk of getting ram'ed by another car/AI and that can get annoying real quick (its not a big problem when the field opens up). So what I hope to se in the future is some better crash avoidance systems/algorithms.

The new tracks. I like them all, with Prague and Spa being my favorite two. Look forward to racing online with my Forza Club members as soon as they all get their Xbox One's (so far 2 of us has imported from Germany, release date in Norway is according to most online shops in July 2014)

The fact that tuning a car is almost identical to Forza 4. The only real difference I have found is the point were the breaks lock up when driving with ABS of. But I got accustom to it quite quickly, so not a problem.

The handling/feedback/feeling (of the car) is pretty much the best I have experienced in any racing game I have ever played. Very satisfying to get good setup on a car and literally hear and feel how all the little changes you make to the setup changes the handling and feeling of the car and how it changes the feedback it gives you (the sound of the tires griping the road and the rumble triggers)

The graphics. In my opinion the best looking console racer out there at the moment.

There are of course other small things I like/dislike, but I don't won't to ramble on to much ;)

Well there is one more thing. Not having The Nurburgring included from the start, WTF were you thinking Turn 10 , but on the other hand, nothing really compares to driving around The Ring in your own car :D
Nurburgring Lap. My best lap time
