Forum Software Change!

Yeah, I just went through and cleared the moderation queue to clean up posts captured before I made the changes.

There's now a dark theme available, which I'm happy to report uses the exact shade of orange from the 2000-era boards, before I even had a clue that Beyond3D even existed.

There's a big difference to the "Beyond3D" or XenForo "Default" themes, and that's when you're looking at the list of forums. They now appear in 2 columns per forum type. I don't really like it, but I've enabled it for the Dark theme just to get feedback.

Edit works. Btw how come I'm a regular when some dude that had joined in 2013 was a veteran? Not that I contribute much of anything.. :p

The titles are based on post count, not time at the wheel. Because you've been here even longer than I have, have a free upgrade!

Is there a way to make a Sticky thread 'global' so it's more visible? Currently the forum change FAQ is in a little frequented corner of the forum, although the right place for it. It'd be good to have some pointers to it to keep users abreast of changes. eg. The dark forum is added but how will they know?!

I could move the thread around a few forums and leave behind redirects, but that seems both clumsy and prone to errors.

There's no analog to the Announcement post type that was possible in vBulletin, but it's probably something that can come back via add-on. I'll add that to the list.

Love the dark theme, much better! I have dark and light on my forums as well and it's very much a personal preference. I started with a dark theme very like to the base UI.X (I use Quark) and I had a bunch of folks wanting a light theme (luckily there was an anti-quark available).

I'd really like the sticky bar back though, I know you can have full width forums with a sticky bar still. And thank you for switching to 2-column mode! I especially wanted this for the large amount of B3D sections.

I also like the dark theme. I would have the text a bit more white though, and/or the dark maybe a tad more dark. The text in the typing box is already better (has a darker background). Make the default background like that, and the textbox completely dark, or something like that. And since you're using orange, that's making it look a lot like the (good looking) dark theme from NeoGAF ... :D Maybe pick blue instead of the orange ... ;)

I've just tried tweaking the hue of a screenshot, and I'm very much in favour of the amber. Contrasts nicely, and of course matches the old amber CRTs. It's also a platform agnostic colour, I think. eg. I'd associate grey and green with XBox/nVidia, blue with PlayStation, and red with AMD.

I'll make the text on the dark theme contrast with the background a bit more. I like the orange and it has historical connotations, so we'll stick with that versus the "B3D blue" on the other version of the theme.

I must admit, after turning off the sticky bar I've really missed it today, so that'll come back.

OK, there's tweaked contrast in the dark theme and sticky (and more compact) navigation and user bars at the top are back in both themes. I'd like to leave the tweaking now for a while and let it all settle in, visually. I'm much more interested now in functional additions or changes that people want, and making sure usergroups and the moderator tools work properly.
