First MGS4 screens are on the web (!)

ChrisUK - scans are not allowed, please remove the image. I believe the scans have already been linked indirectly. It'd be better to link to the post at GAF or from where it originated.

@ Kolgar and BlueTsunami:

Ditto. It really baffles the heck out of me. I'd actually argue that this sort of behaviour draws even more attention and trolls to Beyond3d. He's already regarded as the clown on other forums. I think if members here could maintain a much higher quality by not replying at all and using the ignore function, we would all suffer less. Sadly, immaturity draws immaturity.

I've seen mckmass and onetimeposter (hasamasd) banned for single posts that really didn't disrupt a thread. Yet, PC-Engine gets no flack for derailing a entire thread? How is that? Must have some type of hook up or something....

No bull man. And that week was hard too.

On topic: Look at that lighting in the game. Looks great. And good to see some self shadowing in this game too. (Unlike some next-gen games shown)

Hey lets try and not exagerrate this completely ok ChrisUK?

There seems to be some fan based remarks coming from both sides here. Yes these pictures are impressive but the whole bye bye xbox 360 thing a few have mentioned is a bit ridiculus. These compare well with the Gears of War images released back in May (so about 6-7 months prior to each systems respective release, comparitvely speaking). I expect this is the type of graphics quality we'll be seeing from the big titles on both systems next gen.

are these scans images realtime ingame or realtime renders running on PS3 like Ghost Recon 3 street trailer was running realtime on Xbox 360 hardware?

The face in the scans looks considerably less detailed than the Spiderman 2 villian facial "realtime" picture. The facial quality is on par with Gears of War

Have you ever seen a non-realtime render of Metal Gear? It has been confirmed to be realtime. I rest my case.

It should be realtime in-game. Kojima uses in game assets to cut to the scimematic scenes (so you get a natural progression between in game to cut scene). So the models should stay the same. What the means is what you see above (if Kojima is not BSing us, which I doubt he would) is the ACTUAL game.

Also..the Spiderman demo your talking about is Doctor Octagon and that was just to point out the capabilities of the PS3, not really showing it because the PS3 will be able to display faces like that, in that detail, in games.

hehehe, look what i said . Realtime ingame (gears of war) or Realtime render (ATI Ruby Demo)

case finally closed

Regarding GOW - from what I've seen, animation isn't really up to the visuals (apart from the fact that they're really aiming for a much different art-direction all together) - something Kojima's team have never failed in - in fact, I'd say the most impressive thing from all the Metal Gear Solids over 2 generation of hardware have always been it's interaction with AI, movement, animation and realistic behaviour/simulation across the entire gameplay mechanics - all perfectly and flawelessly accomplished in rock-solid gameplay. There's no other way to put it. The attention to detail in just about any MGS game have been in a new world few have been able to keep up with.

Call it hardwork, call it effort. Call it technical expertise - or heck, a combination of everything. Inspite of this, I'd take the MGS4 scans as much more impressive feat than anything I've seen to this date that could be realtime. Of course, I'm assuming quite a bit here and we still don't have any evidence beyond some scans - but knowing what this team has achieved in the past, I'd be damned if they don't impress with what they have to show come TGS. GOW certainly doesn't look bad - but the trailers and feeds I've seen really has me wishing for better in many aspects other than how it looks in still screen grabs IMO.

So... can we leave further screenshot-piss-matches out of this topic until we get proper material to do so?

so how do you explain DMC having the same level of graphics, or is it realtime render in this case, i dont think its realtime ingame , i think its realtime cutscene (which were always better than ingame if you played MGS3 and MGS2)

I think the animation is being worked upon as Cliffy B said in his blog

OMG! Don't start this game. Please, please don't start this. The darn video for MGS4 hasn't even been shown yet.

Can you guys picture what people will be saying come next week?

I've played MGS2 / 3 and the cut-scenes didn't add anything beyond a more cinematic view and added motionblur (and I believe the framerate was cut in part 2). Apart from that, everything was the same (same detailled models etc). Quit this myth about one looking so much better than the other.

Then may I propose we leave this pathetic attempt of comparasment til the day they do improve on it and more on MGS4 is revealed?
