Fallout 4 [PS4, PS5, XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

I spent a good few hours yesterday base bulding. I decided to move my personal house at Sanctuary Hills two plots over so I was closer to the workshop station in the yellow house and - now having had a lot of time to play the game - designed a three story building with a dedicated floor for storage and crafting (I've moved the weapons, armour, chemical and cooking stations) and another floor for my increasingly growing sets of power armour. After that I looted the crap out of Lexington and did some work on Starlight Drive-In, which seems to get attacked by super mutants, mirelurks and dogs on a daily basis!

At some point I'll push Charisma to 6 so I can get the Local Leader perk which gives shared resources between all settlements but I kind of like keeping my settlement's stores seperate at the moemnt, it means I can budget development without inadvertantly decimating my massive pile of junk at Sanctuary Hills. I do scavaging missions on behalf of a particular settlement - whichever I decide to store the haul.

I also found time to do the U.S.S. Constitution missions which were great fun  I've joined two opposing factions and got a couple of companions to max relationship/trust status and now working on my third (cvrie).

While looking for some random thing in a raider stronghold I stumbled on a deathclaw in the basement of a building and killed it with my shotgun. To be fair, Codworth takes a huge amount of credit as he was screaming at it and blasting it with fire which seemed to confuse the hell out of it allowing me to unload 8 rounds of 230+ damage into it. I really like how it reacted to shots, trying to hold up its massive hands for protection while being blasted backwards by the impact. I didn't get close enough to the first deathclaw to notice it before - an example of the animation and physics really doing its job.

I'm now level 30, have invested more than 80 hours into the game and the bottom-left and top-right quadrants of the map are still largely unexplored! I've also found a few areas that I visited much earlier in the game that have developed on their own. Keeping an eye (and ear) out for radio broadcast signals also leads to some interesting adhoc quests.

I think this is going to keep me going until Christmas at least! I'd forgotten how massive Bethesda RPGs are.

I had two very different Super Mutant / Brotherhood random encounters this evening. The first was in Boston where the Brotherhood were circling in their Vertibird and they fly over a camp of super mutants. It would have gone well if one of the autos didn't have a Fatman so he just blasts the thing out of the sky and the damn things lands about 10ft away :runaway:

Super mutants: 1 - Brotherhood: 0.

I'm outside of Lexington and a Knight and Scribe are engaged in a firefight with a couple of mutos. One of the mutants must have shot the laser rifle out of the Knight's hands because he runs up to them and just begins pummelling them in his power armour until both are dismembered smudges. LOL.

Super mutants: 1 - Brotherhood: 1 - but I award the Brotherhood a bonus point for epic badassery.

edit: oh and I just remember I levelled to 31 and forgot to take a perk in all the excitement!

As for that last part, the game has me so engrossed, I am always running around with an unassigned point until I just randomly see it in my pip boy ! :p Then i choose the worst thing possible cos I get so jittery and indecisive and am unable to decide what to level up  ! What can I do, the game has so many tangents and all feel wroth investing in :runaway: !

It's alright to save a few perk points. That way you can upgrade all perks that has a certain level criterion; Ie. upgrade armorer and gun-nut perks at the same time for easy living.

Cheers

I don't think the game game actually has a level cap. And even if it should end at, let's say, 50, there's plenty of points to go around. Leveling also doesn't really seem to slow down much as you progress. I'm at level 43, and it still doesn't take more than 3 quests to advance to the next level.

Well, thats a relief ! I was wondering really badly about my perk choices and was worried of getting stuck later when levelling up gets real slow like most games.

There is no level cap. I think it's been calculated that to max all SPECIAL stats and get all ranks in all perks requires you to play until around level 270! :)

this game is drugs ! Lost a whole productive day again ! :runaway:

Legendary dudes have been dropping shit till now.Other than that there are so many quests in my log and I know I have completed so many without picking them up from NPCs yet( during my walks through the world) that there is no way to concentrate on the story at all !
And Nick found a Flamethrower for himself from somewhere ! Nice boy !

I realized I was doing settlement missions over and over. Not very fun and very little reward. I'm level 23 with gun nut 2, science 1 and scrapper 2. Basically I make badass weapons and kill things before they can fight back. I have no armor to speak of, just some outfit. I also don't use power armor. I'm mostly non-auto rifles with a few good pistols.

Next time I'm going luck build with sneak.

Yeah, I've been caught out pursuing a few radiant quests - those of the ones that are procedurally generated with a degree of variation and never end. I think they're included for grinding not that I've found the need to grind. As longs you're actively doing something, you're getting xp and levelling pretty fast anyway.

Sneak is very powerful and can be further augmented with a series a "Covert Ops" skill books. It gives you the option of avoiding combat (not that I ever do - if it moves, it dies!). I've really neglected the aroma crafting, I've picked up a few nice pieces mostly from legendary enemies and my crafting energy has been spent on gun crafting like yourself and I have a couple of ranks of Science for energy weapons which are now becoming my mainstay. I was stockpiling guns until I got Scrapper 2 because the amount of components you get is tremendous!

I carry a laser sniper with night vision scope, convention sniper rifles with night vision and recon scopes and a shotgun and that mostly does me along with 10 frag grenades, molotov grenades and frag mines. All of the the more serious explosives are being saved in case I ever need them but so far, I've quite enjoyed taking out opponents like some unseen ninja.

Anybody know how the trading works in game. I put up a couple of booths and assigned someone to them but the guys never bother to man the booth. Do I have to stock the booth? Or does the guys sell their own wares? Do you get a cut of the profits?

I was thinking I would be stocking all the goods that I have scavenged but it doesn't seem like thats the case unless I am suppose to manually place each item around the booth, which I haven't tried. Or do I load the guys up with items through the trade menu. I am a little skeptical about doing that however as I am worried that my guys might decide to leave and inadvertently take my goods with them.

My recollection of reading a description is that you build a certain type of store and assign a worker and the store will produce a certain income (in caps) based on the size of the population of the settlement and it will also stock items that you can buy. I also recall reading that there are special "expert" traders in the wasteland that you can entice/recruit to work at certain types of stores which grant special/rare items.

I can't recall reading anything about you having to stock the store, my understanding / recollection is that once a store is built and a worker assigned it was autonomous.

I've not built any stores yet but most of my settlements do have a Scavenging Station. The idea is that the worker assigned to is will scavenge the local area of extra junk for your workshop. You never see the work actually do this (which is a shame) but you do occasionally see them using a blowtorch on the scavenging station which just seems to a random (and somewhat weirdly irrelevant) animation!

I really do wish there was a better overview for managing settlers and jobs. I've now started trying to loot certain outfits so I know if I see somebody with a certain combination of gear I'll know they are assigned to defence, or food farmers, or whatever.

I’ve received more emails, comments and tweets regarding Trade Routes than anything else—so I made a video guide explaining them. Requirements, assigning a settler and canceling a trade route. Short & sweet, located here:

Hope it helps!

Is there any way of locating companions again? I can only seem to find Codsworth and Dogmeat (and Preston but he's too annoying). I've trawled around the settlements, built bells etc, but still I can't seem to find anyone else (Piper, Strong, gobby merc guy who wastes ammo like crazy).

I never sent Dogmeat anywhere, I think I told him to stay. He is probably dead where I left him.
Don't worry, companions can't die. For them accompanying you is like a bad escort quest.

"WTF is this idiot doing now. Oh no he's dead. Again. Dear God!"

You might get him back once you meet a new companion. You can only take a single companion with you, and though the dog might be sitting god knows where patiently waiting for you, he's still your active companion. When you change travelling companions, you get to choose from a menu where to send the other. Also check out the Red Rocket gas station right next to your Sanctuary Hills settlement. It's where the dog goes by default unless you give him specific orders.
