Fallout 4 [PS4, PS5, XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

11 minute dash across the wasteland. I've only looked at glimpses so have no idea how spoiler free it is!

not watched this, want to keep the discovery alive, thats what I play games for, but by 11 minute dash it must be just runnning diagonally acrros th e map right? cos that 11 minute sounds too short. Wonder how it translates into real game experience though. Are ppl able to run through skyrim in similar time? i have never tried such a thing. The map from the pip boy sure seems small for a game u r supposed to spend 200 hours in.

I am getting the game for sure, maybe I should wait for review copy and not spend money on this one cos FO3 wasn't that enjoyable to me. Skyrim was, though and that night video looked fun. The only problem here is that review copies come very late here, I know it sounds opposite of how it should be lol , but thats how it is here. Basically publishers send us the promo copies that they receive, which arrive after the game has released and sometimes get stuck in customs etc.

BTW, what version are th eleaks from, PC? as a whole they look good.
All of the video footage that I've seen is from PS4 and XBO. I've seen screenshots from the PC version but not any video. If there is PC footage out there, I've missed it. A lot of people on GAF have got the console versions early but judging by Steam, only reviewers are playing the PC version.

In terms of map size, Fallout 4 is approximately the same size of Skyrim, which is around twice the size of Fallout 3.

edit: btw the official pipboy second screen app is on the Play and Apple App stores. And it has an offline/demo mode. :runaway:

edit2: and it has a holotape game built in! :runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

Usually I can take or leave the main quest line in Bethesda's games but I have to say, I'm actually really interested in this story.

Bravo Bethesda! I'm going pro-robot with mad r0b0t sk1llz (perks) so idiot humans better stay out of my way.

Character models look from the previous decade. Environments look nice though. Story is interesting. Why are the character models to ugly (low-res ?), Youtube compression ?

For Bethesda it a step up. I could not enjoy FO3 because of the wooden people, thats what I called them. This is much much better than that. these guys look like people.
I guess most of their computational power goes into running all th e interconnected systems of the world. Thats what I would like to believe.

None of which has anything to do with the story. But the solution is easy: don't buy it, instead get something with tech that meets your personal minimum standards. Problem solved.

You're welcome.

Exactly. More games should follow Bethesda's model. Why even bother with assets, make 'em yourself you lazy fame-seeking modders!

How would you guys rate the actual campaign/main story lines for Fallouts versus other games?

Saw this on gaf, quality NPC model. Damn you Bethesda, you might wanna outsource the creation of those NPC models

What other games in particular?
I guess to other typical action/RPG franchises?
Ie. vs Bioware RPGs, or Blizzard ones, or Ubisoft one etc?
Like, not so much a number rating I'm looking for, but how much of the games enjoyment/pleasure is derived from the main storyline vs just being free to play the game how you feel.

I can't help you with those specific comparisons I'm afraid, I've not played any modern Bioware games and the last Blizzard game I played in anger was World of Warcraft (which only loosely has a main story told from each side) and don't think I've played any Ubisoft RPGs.

Certainly with Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim, there was vastly more non-main-quest content than the main quest, which is really there to draw you around the map so you cross with all side quests. The quality of the main story is subjective - I liked Oblivion and Fallout 3 a lot but mostly ignored the main quest in New Vegas and Skyrim. That said I had as much fun playing those games because of all the side content. Generally speaking you can take or leave the main quest line.

All four games let you play how you like - the reason people are still posting new playthroughs of Fallout 3 and New Vegas is because of all the different quests, different ways they can play out with different consequences and fundamentally different ways to solve problems. There's melee only, ranged, stealth, in-yer-face, ninja assassin's, explosives based company lure and traps, diplomacy, lying or any combination of these.

Hopefully that'll give you a flavour. I'd definitely wait for reviews to get a good idea idea of the main story though.
