Fallout 4 [PS4, PS5, XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

Some on those look decent but quality of assets is really inconsistent. Some textures have way too low resolution for instance.
Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim are all inconsistent with some really gnarly textures and models in places. Going back to the the original PS4 jpegs and this picture:

Look at the base of the bobblehead, it looks crap. It looks like that should be round/curved indicating a bad model, LOD issue or broken tessellation and where is the shadow? But the coffee cups behind are round, though and have a shadow :???: The other textures, particularly the table is a complete cluster fuck!

Plenty of AAA games suffer issues, including Uncharted and The Last of Us, both original PS3 and PS4 remasters, where you'll find a clone army of enemies, and some poor models and naff textures scattered around. Halo 5 has some naff textures, some are going to slip through in assets and some will be the result of some tech breaking. Decisions, decisions and compromises. Where do you make them?

If you're going to let a few shit textures ruin your day you probably need to stop playing games entirely ;-)

Frankly, no one expected Bethesda to showcase FO4 in Gamebryo in the next gen. Especially after acquiring ID software. Who makes gmes with gamebryo anymore? They are dragging a dead corpse along with them, a new engine was a necessity in the new gen.

Game doesn't look that bad and It won't stop people from playing FO4, because their flavour of games doesn't really exist anywhere else, but they sure let us all down when they announced the game with the same old bug infested clunky engine again. Where is the RAGE wasteland ? Everyone dreamed of FO4 with Tech 5 when they played RAGE.

EDIT: Also the impressions of the guy who is playing it seem positive, so all will be happy when it releases.

that's fallout3? or 4? O_O

maybe the mug is static baked oject while the pipboy figure is moveable object?

Visually looks good, but the memory bandwidth limitations of these console designed games is apparent from many of these PC version screenshots.

The bad thing that seems to be coming out of these leaks is that the E3 demo was a PC demo and PS4 version looks worse than that :( ! Now that is bad news, cos I ca be okay with the E3 demo but even lower than that....please !

I think we just have to live with it. Nothing can change, they made a decision after SKyrim to not make a new engine and now it cannot be changed. :-/

The only glaring limitation in either console is memory bandwidth and per core cpu performance. So expect good draw distance, but lower quality mipmaps in the distance and perhaps a slight dip in texture resolution on some objects though still looking pretty good, a slight dip in shadow map quality, and the distance at which shadows are rendered, and of course decreased anisotropic filtering. And of course lower quality AA solution or lack there of.

All of the effects seen in the screenshots still should be present including physically base rendering, that nice Volumetric lighting, and the specular maps you see as damp puddles on the road.

Shadow Rendering distance seems to have taken a huge hit .....shadows vanish after a few metres on the ps4. That's what was glaringly obvious at a glance. I won't do it, checking for lacking stuff, will lower my fun :-/

I think it looks solid. But it certainly is reminiscent of Skyrim in some ways. It looks vastly beyond Fallout 3 or NV however.

I've never used a PS4 or XBO. Are they really still skimping on AF this generation?

Mugs you can pick up because they are objects and mugs you can't because they are fixed scenery? Doubtful. Very doubtful. That would just be inconsistent and confusing.

dunno about fallout, but in other game there usually are a mix of static and dynamic objects that inconsistent.

But not in Fallout or Elder Scrolls. That would kind of defeat the point of being able to interact with the world, and use the world, any way you like.

A fair number of games on both consoles have low levels of AF or lack it, though the majority do have some level of it. Generally as a rule of thumb the Xbox One games will have equal or better AF to ps4 if the XO version stick to sub 1080p resolution where they can fit their render targets entirely in the ESRAM. But in some 1080p games with huge large rendertargets that dont fit entirely in the ESRAM, when they have to start using the precious Xbox system ram to hold part of the render targets it start eating into the DDR3 system memory bandwidth which can force devs to drop the AF quality which also taxes system memory, in some 1080p games this causes Xbox to even have inferior AF to PS4.

In case some haven't seen the full perk list yet, some differences so keep in mind they could be wrong:

The dropbox link is from here - https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3r6yod/spoilers_perk_chart_ranks_typed_and_put_into_an/

Differences like the lone wanderer rank 3 descriptions (wiki - 50% damage reduction, +200 carry weight vs +25% damage with no companion) . Might make a couple early game builds and decide on one when I get it. No level cap so you can (should? confirmed yet?) be able to get everything so it's not that big a deal when you get a bit into it.
