I will buy a PS2 very soon, because my first PS2 is 5 year old and doesn't want to read sometime a disk, and we all know that European BC is not the best on the PS3. As for the PS3, ill buy it when MGS4/FFXIII or another "must have" title arrive. Oh yes and i need HDTV first.

Italian gamers have been picking up PlayStation 3 units this morning after retailers across the country chose to start selling the console two days early.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz Davide Sher of Trade Interactive Multimedia (TIM) magazine - the leading specialist publication for Italian retailers - said, "It's a strange situation. This is the first time retailers have broken street dates by two days."

In the next couple of months. It would've been launch day if I had the money.

I have a confession to make too...

I nearly sold my 360 to fund a PS3. Not that I think the PS3 is better or anything. I think it was cos I like the thrill of the new. But (phew!) I backed out and, as I said, will wait a few months and for the first time ever in my life will be a 2 console chap.

I'll get one Friday 8 a.m. ... if I can make it. I planned to take the day off, but I have to go to work at 8:23 for an appointment. Otherwise I'll get it in the afternoon.

Currently the biggest interest is fiddling with Cell for me, but I think Ill pass until a couple more good games show up. Which likely will be in the Fall/Winter if Uncharted and R&C keep their targeted releases.

I'll probably buy one once it has a decent price and enough exclusive games. I dont really feel like paying 600 euro's just to wait untill 2008 before I can finally play the games I bought the thing for in the first place.

When I get out of bed on Friday...

The shop has a deal so you can get a couple of games cheap if you get them with it so I'll probably do that. I was going to get Motorstorm anyway so this way I get RFoM as well.

More importantly I also have a Yellow Dog Linux DVD burned and ready to install.
I'm one of those odd people who are buying it so I can program it.

I've even set up a site up for anyone else interested in coding for it:

I'm thinking that even if in a year's time, the PS3 drops 150 euros, then I'll have had a PS3 for a year for 150 euros. That's worth it for me.

Anyway, what I really wanted to say, mostly to ADEX, is that the German magazine C't has a Playstation 3 special issue, which is pretty impressive. Even if they don't get everything right, they do cover a whole lot. I think it has been mentioned before here and there.

Moreover, it includes a DVD with Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 including articles, instructions, detailed discussion and so on. I have to say though that I'm still wondering if YDL really is the best linux for the PS3, or if I should go with Ubuntu or Fedora Core 6 (which I also have a disc for and which I've successfully tested on an old PC).

I'll probably try it ... the magazine also comes with detailed backup instructions, so I can always decide I should try another distribution. ;) I'm looking forward to at least giving some kind of coding on the Cell a try also.

It probably is not the best, but from what I've read, YDL seems to be the most easy to use and install on the PS3.

YDL 5.0 for PS3 is quite buggy (I actually installed it from the c't special DVD) with no updates available as of yet, but it's still the distribution that is best tailored to the hardware...

Well its a combination of games and price for me. I bought a Wii because I wanted to play zelda but a big facter was also its price. You know the wii will get some great (nintendo) games anyway, the investment is relative small and the price will likely drop only in small steps so waiting a year would have saved me 50 euro's at best along with having to wait to play those few AAA games in that year. As for ps3 its the opposite for me. I'd love to buy one because the games look great, but 600 euro's imo is a big investment if you look at the fact that it will take untill the end of 2007 at best to show up for the games you'd really buy a console for.

What's buggy about it?

Enlightenment crashes left, right and center. Keyboard map for a non-US keyboard didn't work at first, start-up scripts pass non-existing parameters to executables, applications menu is set up badly (i.e. "Applications" has a single entry called "Applications" under which the actual categories are), Bluetooth doesn't work, and that sort of thing.

It simply feels left in beta / unfinished.

i am not buying one for one pure reason, that i don't own a hdtv. i do have money to buy a ps3, but there is no way i am connecting ps3 on 480p tv :devilish:

23rd I go line in front of my local supermarket where I "preodrered" the PS3 two weeks ago.
They didn't have any list for preorders, so anyone showing up early enough with the receipt for preorder DVD should have a good chance getting one.
If I don't get it there, I'll shop around some places elsewhere and lose my €20 that they took me for "preordering", but I WANT the PS3 for next week because it's my winter holiday and I have good time to play with it.

I actually preordered mine from Konsolinet way back in September (just days before the delay), they have a list at least. I have a gut feeling it won't sell out though.. but you never know.

Neither am i, but i will buy one next month ;)
But even at this time i won't buy "the thing" probably before late 2008 (if even).
The reason is simple : i bought PS2 at launch and had to wait for 18 monthes for decent games !
And even top games at this moment where so deceiving for me that i sold my PS2 right after playing Jack and Dexter, DMC, Onimusha and Silent Hill 2.

Sony has a big job to convince me back !

I'd prefer if only Europeans (the target audience) responded to the poll.

Chef-O, I'm looking at you. ;)

This poll is public remember, so no clever 'poll weighting' efforts can take place that won't backfire on reputations.

I preordered from Kodin Anttila, they said they had not sold that many of those DVD's, so I think I still have a chance, and those who'd bought that disc would be served first.
I've been pretty lucky in buying my consoles at launch, the original PS I got near launch, I don't think it was the launch day but very near. PS2 I got at launch, Wii I got the week after launch and it was really an impulse purchase for me (have not regretted it)... I have a feeling I'll get the PS3 too.
