Episode 3 title: The Creeping Fear

Was talking about the Matrix sequels, Revolutions in particular. Watch the Zion battle--it reaches a point where you can't really make out individual objects, you just see patterns. That doesn't happen in movies.

Oh yes, i was WOWed by the of course, but... that was it...

Yep - it's all very well having good special effects but in Matrix Revolutions, for example, some of the brain-dead plotting spoilt it somewhat for me.

For instance, in the battle for Zion, you get thousands of the 'Squids' attacking and, what do they do? Head-on assault straight into the teeth of the fire. I realise it's for dramatic license but if they had just spread out and attacked from the sides, the battle would have been over in a matter of seconds!

My personal favourite was the high-tech munitions reloading devices: "I'll show those machines what's what with the aid of my trusty wheelbarrow!"

The original Matrix was great and did a lot, especially visually, to breathe some fresh air into Hollywood cinematography. The Matrix sequels did however manage to make Geaorge Lucas look like a man who actually knows what he's doing with his franchise. Granted, I also get a feeling of "Creeping Fear" when thinking of how many ways he has left to ruin the SW universe in Ep. 3. But then I remember how bad Reloaded and Revolutions turned out and can't help but think "even Lucas won't screw up so royally - I hope"...

As for "best" Sci-Fi TV that's so much down to taste its kinda useless arguing. A few personal remarks on shows that pop into my mind can't hurt though: IMO, as much promise as Firefly had, it ran far too short to really have any kind of remaining impact. Kinda like Space:AAB, both basically died the same death: they were just too friggin' expensive to produce for TV. Farscape is weird but I quite like it. Star Trek is dead, what's left of the once mighty franchise is so boring even die hard fans are running away. Stargate is a fun show, but nothing really too stunning either. Andromeda stinks. Babylon 5 is still king of the hill... ;)

Yeah, I pretty much agree with most of the above, though I would rate Farscape very highly indeed, up there right next to B5 for it's consistently high quality. Some very clever writing, brilliant acting, great characters and storylines.

Funnily enough I saw the new Battlestar Galactica last night and it was better than I thought it was going to be. We didn't see enough of the metallic Cylons, but the space combat was very good. Obviously there were hardly any of the CGI Cylons because it kept the budget down.

Afterwards I did mention to the SO that if she liked that, she'd like Space Above and Beyond. Very underrated, but probably the closest to a Starship Troopers kind of series. I tried to look it up, but it's not been released on DVD though.

Star Wars blows, Matrix blows. End of story.

Actually I thought the first Matrix was pretty cool, but the movie-blasphemy known as Reloaded and Revolutions have left scars in my brain that will never heal.

I am hoping that when Episode 3 comes out, it is 6+ hours long, and it starts with a shot of GL saying "I sure fooled you with those shitty prequels, here is the real prequel trilogy"

laugh, yeah that would be good. ;)

Although lately ive been thinking that people are over hyping how good the originals were and are then let down when they get to see the prequels. Samething with the matrix. Very few movies (prequels and sequels) live up to the hype of their original movies.

later,
epic
