EA unveils 05/06 console lineup

hmmh... let me see:
(0.5 The Need For Speed 3DO version)
1. The Need For Speed
2. Need For Speed SE
3. Need For Speed V-Rally
4. Need For Speed 2
5. Need For Speed 2 SE
6. Need For Speed V-Rally 2
7. Need For Speed 3 (Hot Pursuit)
8. Need For Speed 4 (High Stakes / Road Challenge)
(8.5 Need For Speed Motorcity)
9. Need For Speed 5 (Porsche Unleashed / Porsche 2000)
10. Need For Speed 6 (Hot Pursuit 2)
11. Need For Speed 7 (Underground)
12. Need For Speed 8 (Underground 2)
13. Need For Speed 9 (Most Wanted)

so, Most wanted is 13th or 15th of series, depending if you count original 3DO version as own game and if you count the "unreleased" NFS: Motorcity. (came out 2 years later as Online and America only.)

Original idea?? umm... well, I don't think so. :?

If we dig in to even deeper to Need For Speed history and especially take a look of history of EA Canada that did the first version, we find out that IF Accolade would have sold the Test Drive rights to Distinctive Software when it became EA Canada, we most likely would have now Test Drive 12: Most Wanted. (Test Drive series from 1 to 3 as well as classics like Stunts / 4D Sports Driving and Grand Prix Circuit are made by Distinctive Software Inc aka. DSI, which became as EA Canada a bit before The Need For Speed release for 3DO in late 1993.)

and oh... where's Accolade now?? well, afaik, only thing that is left, is now responsible keeping up Atari America's website. :D (and Atari is Infogrames as we all know. Accolade is excelent example how to trust ony one big dev house and even drop the ball with it.)

There's been some skepticism expressed about this list.

For one thing, why would EA talk about titles due this year on a new platform when there is as yet no official launch date for that new platform?

Secondly, why would an American company do a presentation about a new console from another American company in the Netherlands? ERTS and MSFT are mainstays of American stock markets and they're covered by American stock analysts. Could be a case of a foreign subsidiary of an American company going off the reservation? Nothing personal to the Euros and other foreigners on this forum. :)

Finally, does it seem plausible that Madden wouldn't be a launch title? After all, Madden was there for the DS launch and will be for the PSP launch. It was also there for the GC and Xbox launches too, IIRC.

I would think MS will pay whatever it takes to make Madden a launch title, since it's now the only NFL game. And EA, even if it's not ready, could take the PC version of Madden supporting higher resolutions and port it to Xenon if they want to hold back the real next-gen engine for the PS3.
