My expectations for Sony tomorrow:
- Kevin Butler. Maybe not doing the full presentation (though I do think it could work, but probably not)
- lots of games. Really, very, very many. Including Dead Space 2, apparently
, but also of course the first party stuff, new stuff from Naughty Dog (Jak & Daxter maybe? Seems very likely, or otherwise at least something like it), LBP2, some Killzone 3, inFamous 2, Gran Turismo 5, a few 'available now' on PSN surprises probably including Dead Nation by Housemarque, Last Guardian, finally the MMOs (Agency, Free Realms, Final Fantasy XIV at the very least, with release dates), the Rockstar exclusive and probably one or two other 3rd party stuff, MAG DLC shown briefly. Also the next thing from the Warhawk team. Resistance 3 maybe? Very hard to guess at this point - it may be announced to be postponed for 2011 instead, not sure. Maybe Ubisoft will show Beyond Good & Evil 2 (I can dream but it suits a Sony presentation, and they had Assassin's Creed 2 last year). Edit: Motorstorm 3 of course
- 3D stuff, but briefly because it doesn't demo well, which is why they've been demoing so much beforehand
- the Move stuff: the games we've seen shown briefly, a few Move surprises, and definitely a few small demoes of both 3D and Move support at the same time, though again brief that can then be tried on the show floor. Support for Move in XMB, but not as neatly integrated probably as Microsoft has.
- firmware upgrade stuff, but I really have no idea what, apart from BluRay 3D support which will probably go live during or just after the show. Could be PSN+ type stuff like game purchase subscriptions or XMB cross game chat, but I am actually more expecting things like the storefront rewrite that allows other parties to sell through it directly, even across different platforms. It may extend to media stuff (music, video), which I'm expecting to see some more of also.
- Move integration in Home. Not sure of this, but it would make some sense. You could be forgiven to think they may have given up on Home, but the recent improvements have been significant enough to believe that they'll continue to support the platform.
- everything seems to point to a PSP2 launch, though I have a hard time imagining one.
- hoping that if they do statistics, they do it in LBP2, like the first time they did them they were in LBP1, but we'll see.
What would surprise me:
- Right now I'm expecting them to be behind Microsoft's efforts for integrating move in the XMB, so I'd love to be proven wrong.
- PSP2 - they're in a difficult position. I have no idea what to expect here to be honest, and I almost wish Sony could focus fully on the PS3, but the PSP still did really well, so I'm kind of expecting them to bring a PSP2 to the table anyway. Their Go experiments would suggest something that does in fact support dual analog sticks (because they experimented with the DS support over bluetooth which seemed a success), while at the same time having a touch-screen. Backwards compatible with PSP, at the very least to some extent, and available in Phone and non-Phone version to show they finally have the different departments working together.
- what would be very unlikely is that they do a GT5 presentation and at the end they suddenly show that the game is finished and hand out copies to everyone in the audience. It would definitely steal the show though.
