E3 2010: Pre-Conference Discussion & Predictions

As if Wifi is even a cost at this point. It's a virtually free feature if they want to include it. I fully believe they will forgo any price drop this year in order to bundle Natal, but it's silly to believe a 3 cent wifi cost would translate to a savings on the whole package.

Sony cited the WiFi as a reason for high(er) percentage of connected PS3.

If MS wants to push their digital future, they may be keen to include WiFi in their base units. Casuals, especially, may not have wired network in the living room. They may not want to shell out for a more expensive WiFi adaptor too.

That's just a guess.

It's "virtually free" except till you factor in all the lost uber profitable Wi Fi adapter sales. That's how you have to think. And why I'm a little surprised MS is doing this. I think high priced accessories and online fees subsidizing low priced base hardware isn't necessarily a bad business model, it may even be the better one.

Overall it's definitely a good move though. Hard to sell yourself as a console built for gamers if you dont have wi-fi built in.

They don't sell that many WiFi adapters from data I have seen in the past. The real reason for no wifi is the fact that the Xbox 360 design is wifi unfriendly. A new design doesn't have that problem.

Wow.

Somebody translate?

That 360 ad has compatible with"Kinect". Natal name leaked too?
That sounds better then natal, perhaps a combination of kinetic connection?

This has to be true the 360 slim.
the case does complement the board with the vent shafts.

Putting aside money will buy if the fans is quiet and could use wifi. Set aside a bit more money to buy filler material for ugly hole in roof for network cable.

If you look closely, you can see the disc tray cover. Weirdly enough, if you use that as a reference size, it looks as tall, or maybe even slightly taller than the old Xbox 360 design.

For posterity, I've measured a line straight through the middle of that tray and got 80/162 for the leaked pic (i.e. tray width is almost exactly half of total unit height). Did the same for the second Google image search thumbnail of the current Xbox 360, and got 62/120 pixels, not including the HDD hump at the top.

Doesn't look any slimmer either. Shorter possibly, but the perspective makes that hard to tell. It looks almost as if the top is sloped down.

Any word on when it will be available for purchase?
I need to replace my dead X360.

Well, something tells me with the new ad saying it's compatible with Kinect, they could ship this very soon, even before Kinect is out. Maybe we get confirmation tomorrow?
