Dual Shock 3 'Confirmed' For TGS *

It's all still speculation. But you do get the impression at least that people really want it. :)

Kojima really really wants it, though, so who knows. ;) And I'm betting there were others. They may always have wanted rumble, but had to bail for now because of the lawsuit. I didn't think they'd be able to pull something off so fast though, and that remains my main concern. If they do announce one, I'd be surprised, and I still wouldn't think it would be released very soon. But I guess we'll see.

rumble is not necessary.... or so I've been told for the past 18 months. ;)
Still isn't except for select games where they pay attention. At least, not until devs start doing it right, instead of "I PUSH TEH BUTTON AND THE CONTROLLAR SHAKES!"

Actually, when the law-suit was settled, Phil Harisson pretty much admitted that the whole rumble is not necessary was for a significant part due to the lawsuit, and not much else. Hence the announcement short after that Sony and Immersion would be working on 'new products' together in the future.

That said, I fully agree that rumble is very often not necessary. But there are definitely also cases where it is useful ... though in most cases sound is a good replacement (for instance for driving over the curbs in a racing game - then again, if you want to play that game with the sound off, it's nice to have a backup I guess. ;) ).

Of course it's not necessary, virtually nothing in video games is 'necessary'.

However, I think games like Bioshock show how rumble can really increase immersion if used properly, and I think anyone arguing otherwise is pretty ridiculous.

it's done really well in a lot of games this gen... really well.

read the sega Rally demo reviews for one example where feeling the deformable track is paramount. Also small features like the controller slightly rumbling in time with the clock in NBA Live 08 as the shot clock winds down (last 5 seconds) are nuances that we rumble advocates appreciate. ;)

pretty much :)

I won't miss it if it's not there. I obviously won't complain if it's there as long as the price stays the same.

I am more keen to see if the new rumble technology makes any (significant) improvement from the current one. And also if they are going to introduce a new shape that makes the motion sensing even more natural to perform.

I have grown used to the light weight of the current controller. I hope the new one, if it's indeed coming out, won't add too much weight or consume too much battery.

Any ideas on the nature of the rumble? Will it be the Immersion Touchsense tech?

I must say that I haven't missed rumble at all in the Sixaxis.

you can't miss what you don't have. ;) :p

Sure but we experienced rumble before. Some will miss it, others won't.

If they are going to include it at no additional cost, what is there to complain ? I think many people are curious about the new rumble technology (if it's going to be there).

...unless it has negative impact on battery life and such.

true but this gen is offering some new gaming experiences that are not akin to the rumble on last gen.

And now it's available to PS3 gamers too with motion sensing. Everyone should rejoice then since rumble supporters will soon be able to use it, while people who don't miss rumble get something for free (assuming same cost).

Either way, this does not mean different camp of gamers are wrong in their opinion. The developers will have to make the hardware worthwile (Exactly the same can be said for SIXAXIS: Some will like it and claim "Others don't know what they are missing", the rest will simply give it a pass).

But life moves on as usual.

hm..,nothing really points to that ,in fact.Good 'ol ' ps2 rumble is now free to come back, imo.

Yes... that's why I'm still on the fence.

Except everyone's been talking about next-gen rumble. It'd be weird to have Immersion talking about next-gen rumble developed for next-gen consoles, and then have boring old controller-buzzers.

Now the question is whether the current battery is good enough or if there will be higher capacity batteries IF this is true.

Next-Gen rumble will have a big impact on the PS3.

It will seperate Madden PS3 from the XB360 version, along with having a standard hard drive.

Haven't played either of those, but in general this game I've found just as little that's inspiring--or useful--as the last. It's the same reason that I barely register a difference when switching between the regular Gamecube controller and the Wavebird; most games "have something," but the something that's there is rather boring.

Force feedback it ain't. :p
